    Beatles Break iTunes Record

    Beatles Break iTunes Record

Beatles have sold 5 million songs in under two months

The Beatles continue to break records, four decades after the legendary band broke up.

The Hollywood Reporter reports that the Fab Four have sold 5 million songs in just under two months on iTunes, a feat no other act has accomplished.

According to an iTunes spokesperson, The Beatles have sold more than 5 million songs since their much ballyhooed November 16 debut on the online retailer. In that time, the group has also sold more than a million full-length albums.

The Beatles were a notable iTunes holdout and the big reveal that their music was going to finally be made available was met with a media blitz.

The most popular song, says THR, is Here Comes the Sun, from 1969's Abbey Road, which is the band's top-selling album on iTunes.

Each of the Beatles' 13 studio albums, including Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band, Revolver, The Beatles [The White Album] and Abbey Road, was remastered for digital release. Apple also added visual features and a mini-documentary about the creation of each album to the recordings.

INteresting that Here Comes the Sun came out on top. It was never a single back in the day and the song was written and sung by the so called "quiet one" George Harrison. Just shows that a song can permeate into the culture without having to be a big hit at the time of its release.

That was the most interesting fact in the article.

It is also makes me wonder if the online sale of music isn't beginning to take a firm hold; many young people that I know buy off of Itunes all the time.

"Here Comes the Sun" gets its long, overdue respect. An awesome tune written totally by George Harrison about the impending breakup of the group and how things are still going to be alright.

Most of the best late music stuff was by Harrison and Starr that were in the tank but not released as Beatles tunes and later released on solo albums, i.e., "Photograph" [[written by Harrison, performed by Starr), "It Don't Come Easy," and much of that stuff on the "All Things Must Pass" masterpiece by Harrison.

Instead, Beatles fans were tossed a lot of crap, like "Revolution No. 9" by Lennon, and some schmaltzy McCartney stuff.

here Comes The sun was written by George one afternoon in Eric Clapton garden..this is interesting news it shows an older market is using Itunes and is reminds me of the boom in CD sales in the 90s when people rebought their vinyl collections on disc..it feels like Itunes is tapping into this market again..

Just goes to show you what the group said a long time ago: Nothing is Beatleproof!
