What Takes Place When Materials Are Remastered

I've always wondered about that in the back of my mind and some times I think they just say that to get you to buy it again. The Intruders Save The Children album is said to be remastered and has bonus materials to boot. I ordered it from Amazon and am awaiting delivery. School me on remastering, I'm all ears.

I've always wondered about that in the back of my mind and some times I think they just say that to get you to buy it again. Hopefully someone more knowing than myself will answer, but as far as I know 'remastering' means that an engineer gets ahold of the master tapes the music was originally recorded on and [[excuse my lack of tech terms!) works with the sound-as-recorded to create a more effective aural mix for whichever new technology the music will be listened to with - CD, streaming, etc.
