Marv, this is a cracking tune!!!! I believe the reason why you haven't heard it before is because it wasn't released at the time of recording! It has only since come out on her Motown Anthology CD.
Blinky and Edwin Starr did a great version for their Just We Two album but I think this one tops it for me. BTW, the song was written by The Lewis Sisters.
Thanks for posting
[[I initially thought the video was actual footage of her performing the song but soon realised that was very unlikely... the YouTube poster tricked me!!)
Just another example of Quality Control missing the boat and sitting on tracks that could easily have hit it big. The Lewis Sisters and Brenda were a good combination, if this and "Where Were You" are any indicators of that.
LYRIC QUESTION!
I am really struggling with this one... it's especially weird and quite annoying because Brenda's singing is so clear and audible [[and beautiful) and I think I can make out what she's saying... it's just that it doesn't make any sense?!!
OK, here's what I got for the second verse and chorus:
'Cause I see a rainbow [[I see a rainbow)
Right up there, your despair
And though your old love hurts you
I'll make it up to you, I swear
Because I need you [[Need you)
And the rainbow's bright has gold
But the rainbow's only does
If you let my love grow cold
I would be grateful for any help
