I'm a Mets fan, so you know that the first thing that comes to mind is the Red Sox losing game 6 when Bill Buckner had the ball scoot between his legs. The Mets steamrolled them the next game to win their last series back in the '80s. But don't ask me about stinging defeats when I've had the worst of the worst to my own teams. To wit:

#5: The 2008 Mets, led by manager Willie Randolph, held a 3.5-game lead in the NL East, and with only 17 games to go, New York looked like a sure thing. However, the Metropolitans won just seven of the remaining contests to blow the division lead. What's worse is the Mets had also choked the previous year, becoming the first team ever to blow a 3.5-game lead in consecutive Septembers, according to the Elias Sports Bureau.

#4: The Monday Night Miracle was an NFL Monday night game between the New York Jets and Miami Dolphins played at Giants Stadium on October 23, 2000. The Jets scored 30 points in the fourth quarter, twice tying the score, and sending the game into overtime, where they defeated the Dolphins, 40–37.

#3: The 1980 Atlanta Falcons season was the Falcons 15th season. It was the first season division title in franchise history. After a 3-3 start the Falcons went on a nine-game winning streak as Quarterback Steve Bartkowski has a career season passing for 3,544 yards while connecting on 31 Touchdown passes, as the Falcons won their first ever division Championship. The Falcons, would earn home field throughout the playoffs. Playing before 60,022 fans at Fulton County Stadium the Falcons lead the Dallas Cowboys 24-10 in the 4th Quarter. However, the Cowboys would score 20 points to stun the Falcons 30-27.

#2: In 2016, Villanova defeated UNC on a game-winning three-point shot at the buzzer by Kris Jenkins to win the NCAA Championship by a final score of 77–74, winning their second NCAA championship. UNC had recovered from a 10-point deficit in the final five minutes to tie the game on an off-balance, double-clutch three-point shot that passed through the net with 4.7 seconds left, leaving the Wildcats one last chance to clinch a victory before overtime. Kris Jenkins inbounded the ball to four-year team captain Ryan Arcidiacono, who dribbled down court, passed the ball and set a bubble screen to assist Jenkins' game-winning shot.

#1: Super Bowl LI. 'Nuff said.

Sigh... I don't even know why I follow sports anymore.

Jerry, the worse personal loss for me was the great[1979]game-redskins-cowboys with rodger stubach-joe thiesman going at it for the division title and playoff spot-loser goes home, skins up at one point[34-17]but those damn dallas cowboys had a legend at qb-final score..cowboys 35-redskins 34 and i almost put a chair through my tv[no joke]my wife thought that i had lost my mind..one of the great games in nfl history and the most emotional one for me.

Of course my favorite basketball uniform is the University of North Carolina. Carolina Blue with that argyle pattern is the best in basketball. Kentucky tried to cop something similar with their checkerboard but really they look like they're ripping off Tennessee's brand. In football, I have always like Penn State's plain blue and white unis. I especially appreciate them in this age when most college teams have funky alternate uniforms and also change their base unis every other year. That works for Oregon but nobody else. I liked Notre Dame before they went to the shiny helmets.

I used to like the Yankees' uniforms back in the day. I hate the Yankees now, so I hate their unis [[even though I like them). Every team in the NBA and NHL has changed its uniforms in the past five or six years, so it's hard to like any of them. But I used to like the Packers' uniforms. They remind me of when I first started watching football and Vince Lombardi was the biggest name in pro sports. My favorite Falcons uniforms were circa 1978-80, when they had gray pants, red jerseys and red helmets. Still love that one. Curiously, although I'm a Dolphins fan, I only like them in their white jerseys and white pants. Their aqua jerseys are boring but their white uniforms are hyped.

We'll see. Everybody thought that Paul George was going to be a Laker until LeBron signed first and he decided he'd rather play with Russ. I don't think players are as willing to play with LeBron as the press tries to pretend. The only time he "recruited" good players to be with him was when he joined two of his best friends in Miami. It's hard for others to shine when he has the ball on every possession.

Only if he is healthy. Last year, he was apparently hurt but not injured for most of the year. Is he still hurt? Or is he going to be butt-hurt because of the trade? Hopefully, he gives them 100% to reward them for their faith in him [[and to earn his $19 million).

I picked a horrible time to stop watching the NFL. I'm a Dirty Bird for life, but I'll follow the action through the box scores this year instead of watching even them. I'm almost as big a Dolphins fan as Falcons fan but after last week's BS about the anthem, I'm probably no longer going to like them. Thanks, Trump!

With that said, I have a really really good feeling about Atlanta's chances this season. Things seemed to line up for us this off-season, especially when we drafted Calvin Ridley.

Oh, I'm good. I'm not as angry at Trump as I am at the people who put him in office and those who are supposed to keep his actions in check but are permitting him to run amok. They own this. And the NFL owners just put a nail in the coffin between my conscience and their business. I stopped wearing my NFL gear last year and I'm one affront away from giving it all away to Goodwill.

By the way, what's with all of the Bryce Harper hate I'm reading? I thought he was supposed to be baseball's version of Captain America but people seem to think he's a jerk. Since my Mets went from a record hot start to being a few weeks out of mathematical elimination, I'm not even watching baseball right now.

There are reports that his average has dropped because your manager has him swinging for the fences, not average. I'm betting there's analytics driving it believing that more extra bases and home runs justify the drop in on base percentage. All sport is becoming a numbers game.

I saw that. But he was 18 when he made the comments, well old enough to know that what he was saying was wrong and possibly harmful. I'm not accepting the apologies of these allegedly former racists when their dirty laundry comes out. It'd be interesting to learn what happened in the last five years to make him realize that the stuff he said was bad.

I have little sympathy for people who show their true colors and are held accountable for it. I'm here in Columbus while Urban Meyer is caught up after trying to protect a friend and assistant coach after the guy beat his wife for years. Even if I was a Buckeye fan, I'd be pushing for him to get the boot.

Tre turner is old enough to realize what he was saying,he thought it was cool to say it on the internet and now it's bitten his behind but he'll survive because his fans will forgive him.

He'll survive because racist is the new black. It's amazing that racists can say racist things, you're the victim when someone calls it out. That other baseball player did the same thing and received a standing ovation after he apologized. And they'll smear a football player for taking a knee while protesting police abuse.

That will never happen. It was funny to see Jerry Jones standing in attention for the flag with his hat on. When told that he should take it off, he refused to do it. It's all just politics.

I shouldn't have said it but I don't see them as winning. More like I am. It's hard to explain. This country has me all messed up. Did you hear what Laura Ingraham said on Faux News last night? Talk about racists having no shame about the world knowing how deplorable they are:
“In some parts of the country it does seem like the America we know and love doesn’t exist anymore. Massive demographic changes have been foisted upon the American people. And they’re changes that none of us ever voted for and most of us don’t like.

“Now much of this is related to both illegal and, in some cases, legal immigration that of course progressives love,”

I will never beat a drum for you or anybody to join a cause like that. I'm still going to enjoy the results, just not the games but I hope you and ms_m enjoy the season. Love y'all too much to ever think that I would put something on your consciences.

I allowed myself to take my anger to another level and I don't endorse anybody else joining me on that particular train. I'm still going to talk mad smack, knowing that I somehow have two teams that are better than both of yours'.

By the way, I read where John Wall has a chip on his shoulder that the presumptive dominant teams in the East are Boston, Toronto and Philly. He's predicting a run to the Finals. He might be right; I think I have more stock in their chances than you do.

Good news and [[kind of) bad news. The Rednecks lost tonight but Adrian Peterson looks like he's ready to get down for your guys. He had 11 carries and 56 yards. Y'all rushed for 136 yards but gave up 151 with two weeks left before the season starts. Also gave up 248 yards receiving...

    Defense might be a problem.
