    Google doodles

A Google Doodle is a special, temporary alteration of the logo on Google's homepages intended to commemorate holidays, events, achievements, and notable historical figures.

[[Click on the image to advance to various informative text.)

Today’s Doodle celebrates Mexican singer and songwriter María Grever, considered to be one of the country’s greatest composers. Grever spent a lifetime producing hundreds of songs that went on to be covered by some of the world’s most famous artists, like Placido Domingo, Aretha Franklin, and Frank Sinatra. On this day in 1938, Grever recorded “Ti-Pi-Tin,” a waltz about serenading your loved ones that became one of her biggest hits.

    Wikipedia:

María Grever [[14 September 1885 – 15 December 1951) was the first female Mexican composer to achieve international acclaim. She is best known for the song "What A Difference A Day Makes" [[originally "Cuando vuelva a tu lado"), which was popularized by Dinah Washington and has been covered by numerous artists.

That one was neat. You can customize the sounds by adjusting the ocillators and volume knobs [[and record what you create). I recall Robert Moog giving Stevie Wonder one of the first MiniMoogs that came off the assembly line. Now, there are free programs that you can install on a home computer that can produce a much wider variety of sounds than that device did.

Has the world has changed or stayed the same? Different dances, different clothes. But for the most part, young people today express themselves much the same as they did 80 years ago. Maybe there's a difference in the energy...

You're joking, right? Young people today don't even dance with partners half the time. They seem to jump up and down to noise and call it dancing. Okay, I'm feeling old.

Also, Frankie Manning was a frequent member of Whitey's Lindy Hoppers and choreographed for them. There was a global revival all over the world in the 80s. Interesting life. The dance craze was interrupted by WWII when many of the dancers were drafted.

Yah, I guess you're right. Most dancing today is guys dancing beside [[not "with") other guys and girls dancing beside other girls. Have to believe it's not like that in the nightclubs but since I haven't been dancing in over 20 years, I'm not in position to say. With that being said, dancing is one of the purest forms of expression and I love watching Lindy Hop and big band dancing. That's an era that I unfortunately missed.

Today we celebrate world renowned German composer and musician Johann Sebastian Bach with our first ever AI-powered Doodle! Made in partnership with the Google Magenta and Google PAIR teams, the Doodle is an interactive experience encouraging players to compose a two measure melody of their choice. With the press of a button, the Doodle then uses machine learning to harmonize the custom melody into Bach’s signature music style [[or a Bach 80's rock style hybrid if you happen to find a very special easter egg in the Doodle...).

First known for his contributions to bebop and modern jazz, and second known for his iconic cheeks, Dizzie Gillespie's doodle is one that is both lively and unlike any other doodle to hit the homepage. Inspired by the jazz album illustrations of the mid 1900s, Dizzie's doodle quickly turned into a crescendo of shapes and color.

    Buddy Holly - Google Doodle
by Mikael Paris / 5 years ago

So here is an animation I did for Google Doodle. We had to incorporate the word Google in the piece in some sort of way. The person I chose to do the doodle on was Buddy Holly, mainly because he's awesome and his music is too.. and! He was a huge musical icon of the 1950s time period.. which was one of my favorite time periods for music. So here is my little commemoration.

“Here’s old Earl Scruggs with his fancy five-string banjo,” the introduction for the bluegrass banjo master’s Grand Ole Opry show stated. Today's Doodle celebrates Earl Scruggs, the man who developed the “Scruggs style” [[his own three-finger method of picking) on the anniversary of the opening of the Earl Scruggs Center in 2014. His innovation changed the sound of American roots music, but fancy was not a word Scruggs would use to describe his beloved banjo. “It’s just an old hand-me-down,” he said of the Gibson Granada he’d played since the 1940s.

I had the great good fortune to meet and get an autograph from Mr. Masekela after a concert in my college days. He was the most accessible, down-to-earth man. On the bill and backstage with him was Miriam Makeba. She looked so exhausted that I didn’t have the heart to bother her.
