Thread: Yo... Moe

The Steelers draft and develop wide receivers as well as anyone. Why they'd feel the need to trade several high draft picks for the right to pay one ~$25 million per year escapes me. They're literally the last team that would make that transaction, in my opinion. Especially since George Pickens is going to need a new deal soon. I guess Aiyuk mentioned them as a team he'd prefer - even if he got a smaller deal than what the Niners have offered - so some sports writers are trying to create drama.

I'm not holding my breath for that one.

    Uhhhh...

I guess I stand corrected. Apparently there's some buzz to the rumors.

Brandon Aiyuk trade rumors: Steelers have potential deal in place for 49ers receiver, per report

The 49ers have also sent Aiyuk a long-term contract offer to stay
    By Bryan DeArdo
Brandon Aiyuk's crazy contract saga might be coming to an end. The Pittsburgh Steelers have a deal on a potential trade for the 49ers receiver, according to NFL Network. Pittsburgh is also in a good place when it comes to a possible long-term deal for Aiyuk if the 49ers sign off on the trade, per the report.

The report also stated that the 49ers have sent Aiyuk a long-term contract offer, but he has not accepted it at this time. The two sides simply have not been able to find common ground on an extension despite months of trying.

If the trade goes down, it would signal the end of one of the NFL's biggest offseason storylines.

Aiyuk, 26, has made it clear that he did not want to play the 2024 season under the franchise tag. He requested a trade once it became clear to him that that could be a possibility. Aiyuk pushed the issue of a possible trade by not practicing and publicly stating that he wants to play for either the Commanders or Steelers.

The 49ers have reportedly listened to outside offers for Aiyuk in a potential trade, including one from the Patriots that would have made Aiyuk one of the NFL's highest-paid receivers. But Aiyuk apparently did not want to go to New England. The Browns also reportedly made the 49ers an offer that went nowhere.

Pittsburgh has constantly been linked to reports regarding Aiyuk, dating to the NFL Draft when the Steelers were reportedly trying to acquire either Aiyuk or fellow 49ers wideout Deebo Samuel. Nothing came to fruition then, however, as it was reported that Pittsburgh was unable to meet the 49ers' requests in a possible trade.

Like back then, the Steelers reportedly weren't able to meet the 49ers' trade requests in recent days, but that could change if the 49ers accept what is currently on the table.

If he comes to Pittsburgh, Aiyuk would join a rebuilt offense that includes quarterbacks Russell Wilson and Justin Fields, running backs Najee Harris and Jaylen Warren and No. 1 wideout George Pickens. The Steelers have been trying to find a complement to Pickens since trading Diontae Johnson to Carolina in exchange for cornerback Donte Jackson earlier this offseason.

Pittsburgh likes what it has seen out of Van Jefferson, another free agent acquisition who helped the Rams win a Super Bowl three years ago. But despite Jefferson's promising start, the Steelers are still apparently pursuing Aiyuk, a talented receiver who would significantly increase their odds of making a deep playoff run if they are able to acquire him.

I'll bet it doesn't happen, & Aiyuk will stay with the 49ers.

  4. #6704
We will find out. It would be the most un-Steeler thing that I can imagine. Not only because you guys don't typically make trades to bring in star players or that you tend to churn out your own wide receivers, but because you'll need to carve out a lot of salary cap space and cough up assets to do it. Forget the fact that Arthur Smith's offense to date has been run-heavy and not very vertical. Or the fact that there are questions surrounding both of your QBs.

I didn't have it on my bingo card, but we'll probably soon learn.

  5. #6705
Oh, wow... Speaking of trades, Atlanta traded for Matt Judon last night and they're negotiating with Justin Simmons today. If we land both of them, we have a heckuva defense on paper. They're both older dudes, but they're also a couple of dogs. Things are trending up.

  6. #6706
I saw the news about Judon. I was shocked that NE would give him up. Good for the Falcons!

And Aiyuk is still out there......

  7. #6707
Looks like the Steelers had a Pirate score. No TD's, OLine sucked [[B Jones...what?)
I'm surprised there were no choruses of "Fire Canada" in the stadium [[for Smith).
Gotta a long way to go.

  8. #6708
Don't worry. Preseason games are about experimenting with new plays and choosing the players who'll make up the bottom third of the roster. I rarely watch a whole preseason game. I'm already looking forward to playing your guys in Atlanta in three weeks.

  9. #6709
I wish I could be more optimistic.

I'll have to get a hold of Ms M & get her back here.

  10. #6710
I'm hearing a lot of folks saying that Russ is struggling in the games and that Fields needs to start. I wouldn't worry so much about it because he's in a different offense. But to be honest, I really would prefer to play Russ in the first game than Fields because Fields can make defenders look stupid when he goes off script.

  11. #6711
The QB controversy is reaching its peak. The game on Saturday is now must-see TV.

  12. #6712
I have Detroit and Pittsburgh on. Hit it by accident while surfing. Someone clue me. Exhibition game?

  13. #6713
Yep. Preseason tryout for players who will fill out the bottom quarter of both teams' rosters. The real bullets start flying in 15 days.

  14. #6714
I like that young Detroit quarterback. He knows how to run. Early in the game when Detroit was down by a couple of TDs I thought they looked a little off but finally caught fire and I could see the Lions waking up. Sorry about your team Moe.

Hooker is from my neck of the woods...........Tennessee. And he was the SEC player of the year in 2022. Always liked him.

I don't care, Ralph........it's only preseason. I WILL care when the Steelers play the Falcons in the opener. Jerry, I'm saying it'll be Fields.

  16. #6716
Hendon Hooker is a stud. He might have won the Heisman Trophy had it not been for his injury. Getting him when they got him in the draft was a steal because Goff has a few years ahead of him and he's going to be able to develop on the bench like Mahomes, Rodgers, and Jordan Love did. Detroit's set at QB for the next 5+ years.

I had dinner with my brother, Moe. He thinks Wilson's going to be cut or traded during the season. He's got all the confidence in the world that this is a championship team, regardless of the QB situation or the injured center. In other words: Hope reigns eternal in the wasteland between his ears. He did invite me to watch the Steelers and Falcons over at his place in a couple of weeks and I might take him up on it.

  17. #6717
You tell your brother that I need some of his confidence to rub off on me! But, I DO agree with him......I think Wilson will be cut. Why did they get rid of Rudolph? It's a whole new ballgame with Omar at the helm. Gotta read some more.

  18. #6718
CeeDee Lamb's new contract makes Aiyuk the "exceedingly difficult" to keep?
With all those that the 49ers have to keep/pay it looks as if he's the odd man out.
    Your thoughts. Jerry?

    Get over here, MsM!!

  19. #6719
It's hard to keep everybody that deserves a good contract. It's the peril of building a really good roster. The problem with San Francisco and Aiyuk is that he's a good receiver but the fourth option in their offense behind McCaffrey, Samuels, and Wittle. Do you want to give your WR2 a max contract? Miami did with Waddle's new deal. The Eagles did with DaVonta Smith. But putting a quarter of your salary cap into two players at the same position really hurts your depth.

I understand why the Niners don't want to pay him and I also understand why he's frustrated. Is Jamar Chase reporting to Cincinnati? If not, they're going to finish fourth in the AFC North. The market for wide receivers is crazy right now.

  20. #6720
Aiyuk doesn't have many choices so he's a bit of an odd man out.

And I contacted Ms M, who said in her first words [when I made a comment about Cee Dee Lamb] "He deserves it." She'll be here soon.

  21. #6721
It'll be good to have her back. I'm looking forward to being memed up with every twist and turn of the Cowboys season.

  22. #6722
Well, Aiyuk got his contract........4year, $120mil, guaranteed $76mil.
I guess the Yorks showed him the $$.

  23. #6723
Pittsburgh lost a guard. They're already starting their backup center. I hate injuries, regardless of who gets hurt but I really hope we can take advantage of this situation.

  24. #6724
I'm hearing a lot of reports that Pittsburgh fans will be taking over Mercedes Benz Stadium tomorrow. There were previously rumors that Chiefs fans are going to do the same thing next week. How embarrassing to have a solid offseason that many are expecting to lead to a good year but to effectually permit your home field to become a neutral site. There are sooo many Falcons fans who are casuals instead of die hards and I'm glad I'm 800 miles away.

  25. #6725
Lawd love a duck. We have a new YOUNG pastor and my life has been hectic as heck.

Now I have to figure out how I'm going to watch this season since my last season fix seems to have bitten the dusk. MAY get to see my Boyz at 4 but that's a big maybe. I'll check back shortly. BTW....Hi err body. I know Moe is away for awhile though.

  26. #6726
FINALLY found a stream but it's making me nervous because I need to renew my VPN and can't do that until tomorrow. Anyhoo....sorry 'bout the Falcons Jerry Oz but I'm sure Mo is happy and congrats on the Dolphins.

  27. #6727
    That WAS NOT a catch!!!!

  28. #6728
    Touchdown!

  29. #6729
    Not mad with the FG!!!!!!!!!

  30. #6730
Oh yeah, not feeling Brady right now but hopefully he will get better.

  31. #6731
    Damn Sam, homeboy can kick!

  32. #6732
    Touchdown!

  33. #6733
I am in transit out on the west coast but I heard about the Steelers win. Sorry Jerry! But who got hurt on the Steelers?
Hi Ms M…..your Boyz can keep sticking it to the Browns!!!

  34. #6734
Not sure who got hurt, Moe. But your defense showed up big today and you are a fan of the only team in the AFC North that won in week #1. Kirk Cousins looked very rusty and our offensive line - which was a top 10 line last season - needs to realize that it's a brand new year and play better.

  35. #6735
    Anyone watching the game tonight?

  36. #6736
My wife has the remote and I don't feel like watching it on another TV. [[Translation: "I don't care enough for either team to get off my butt to watch it if it's going to be an inconvenience.")

  37. #6737
LOL. I feel ya. So far you really aren't missing that much. Can't believe I have to choose between these two teams but the Niners are the team I pull for tonight.

What the heck was that with Tyreek getting pulled over. REALLY?

  38. #6738
The Jests are my least favorite team in the NFL. I root against them, regardless of whom they're playing. Followed by the Stains. The team's owner and its fans are among the most reprehensible human sludge that graces the planet. I heard Christian McCaffrey's not playing, which is more reason to avoid it. I'll bet there are a lot of fantasy football team owners with broken TV sets right now.

Tyreek Hill got pulled over for speeding and apparently matched the energy of the cop. That, along with the fact that he was a Black driver of a $100 grand sports car, was more than enough for the local gendarme to remind that young man that [in the words of Stevie Wonder] you might have the cash, but you cannot cash in your face. Some would call this a tragedy, but I just call it another Sunday in America.

  39. #6739
Based on a comment he made it was obvious he was speeding but everything after that seemed rather excessive. shrugs.

I don't like Shanahan or Kittle but I respect Deebo, Purdie, Warner and McCaffrey {yep he's out tonight} and Rodgers needs to accept the fact that he's OLD!!! lol

  40. #6740
The Boyz looked really good on Sunday, Ms. M. I'm so glad that Cleveland landed DeShaun Watson because I made promises to abandon my fandom if Miami had traded for him. And then, when I was relieved that the deal fell through, Atlanta tried to get him! Other Falcons fans hold my receipts that I was going to stop being a fan if Atlanta had landed him. Then, Cleveland swept in and not only traded the farm for him, they gave him $250 million guaranteed. And he's now being sued for sexual assault by another woman who wasn't included with the 23 that he settled with.

I don't wish him well, but the Browns were my father's favorite team and thus, my unofficial third favorite team. Now, I couldn't care less whether they win or lose although most of my friends are Browns fans. Screw them, not just for betting their future on a sexual predator [telling their female fans and team employees that winning is less important than protecting women], but for making the sin even worse by giving him the biggest fully-guaranteed deal in the history of the league.

    {Jerry steps off of his soapbox to take a nap}

  41. #6741
They did look good didn't they?

Hope you had a good nap but tonight's game?....so far...ouch!

  42. #6742
    Hope Tua is ok though!

  43. #6743
Announcer's can say what they want but there are some trades I still don't understand, don't care how you parse it.

  44. #6744
Who is the guy in the booth with Michaels? Feeling some kind of of way about the dude!

  45. #6745
Was hoping for a better outcome Jerry Oz. Season still quite young though!!!!

  46. #6746
It got old quickly when Tua left with a concussion. We don't have a starting quality backup in Skylar Thompson. BTW: Remember when the NFL media world laughed at Atlanta for drafting Michael Penix right after signing Kirk Cousins? There's a reason why that happened and the Dolphins figured it out tonight.

  47. #6747
You know me Jerry, I NEVER give up to the fat lady sings so give the kid a chance. However, everything about the Dolphins seemed to be slightly off last night, including McDaniel's. Let's see how it all plays out.

  48. #6748
Praying for Tua, who just happens to be my favorite player right now. I hope he and his family take a deep and informed look at his situation and make the best decision for his health and well-being. He just signed a huge contract three weeks ago, but that should be near the bottom of his considerations about his future. If he comes back, every Dolphins fan will cringe every time he is knocked down. He didn't even take a hard shot last night. I remember Troy Aikman being knocked out from a sack when his head wasn't in contact with the defender or the turf; he was just predisposed to head injury late in his career. I listen carefully to him on the games he calls because I'm waiting for the effects of those injuries to crop up on him like they did on Frank Gifford, who went from being lucid and clear one season on Monday Night Football to slurring and confused the next.

Hey, has anybody seen Jai on the board lately? He should be in here telling us about the new era for the Commanders by now.

  49. #6749
It didn't look hard but awkward, and I did notice the "fencing" motion that people are referring to. Am I wrong in thinking he would still get paid whatever he decides is in his best interest? Hats off to the Bills fanbase, apparently they are donating heavily to Tua's foundation.

I was thinking about Jai last night. Hope all is well with my friend!!!

  50. #6750
BTW, I still cringe when I think about some of the hits Troy took and we are probably thinking of the same particular one. It's the reason I was glad he finally retired. Can't help but hope Tua considers his health above all else, but his decision his choice.
