    In honor of Mother's Day.....

How many Motown songs had lyrics about "Mom" or "Grandma" [[or variation)?

    "Honey Chile":

    You're shiftless and you're lazy
Just like that hound dog, Daisy
I had when grandma raised me
    Honey Chile, when Granny

    "Love Child":

I started my life in an old, cold run down tenement slum
My father left, he never even married mom
I shared the guilt my mama knew
So afraid that others knew I had no name

    "I'm Living in Shame":

    Mom was cooking bread
She wore a dirty raggedy scarf around her head
    Always had her stockings low
Rolled to her feet, she just didn't know

    and of course:

"Does Your Mama Know About Me?":

Does your mama know about me
Does she know just what I am
Will she turn her back on me
Or accept me as a man

    "Shop Around"
When I became of age my mother called me to her side,
She said, "Son, you're growing up now pretty soon you'll take a bride.
And then she said, "Just because you've become a young man now,
There's still somethings that you don't understand now,
Before you ask some girl for her hand now
Keep your freedom for as long as you can now."
My mama told me, "You better shop around, [[shop, shop)
Oh yeah, you better shop around." [[shop, shop around)

    "Runaway Child Running Wild"
You played hookie from school and you can't go out to play, yeah!
Mama said, "For the rest of the week, in your room you gotta stay, yeah!"
Now you feel like the whole world's pickin'[ on you,
But deep down inside, you know it ain't true.

    "Mama's Pearl"
Mama's pearl, let down those curls
Won't you give my love a whirl
    Find what you been missin'
    Ooh, ooh, now baby
Goody girl, let down those curls
Let me give your heart a twirl
    Don't keep me wishing

Papa Was a Rollin' Stone- The Temptations

Although it is a song about papa, the lyrics are addressed to "mama"

It was the third of September
That day I'll always remember, yes I will
'Cause that was the day, that my daddy died
I never got a chance to see him
Never heard nothin' but bad things about him
Momma I'm depending on you, to tell me the truth
Momma just hung her head and said, son
    Papa was a rolling stone,
Where ever he laid his hat was his home
And when he died, all he left us was alone
Papa was a rolling stone, [[my son, yeah)
Where ever he laid his hat was his home
And when he died, all he left us was alone
    Hey Momma!
Is it true what they say that Papa never worked a day, in his life
And Momma, some bad talk goin' round town sayin' that
    Papa had three outside children.........

Play "Thank You[[For Loving Me All The Way)" by Little Stevie Wonder. That was about his mother. Or, play "Thank You Mother", by Edward Hamilton and The Arabians [[or was that him backed by The Natural Looks?).
