    1976...........Motown's Last Best Year?

Well looking back now at all the classics produced by Motown in that amazing year....the Bicentennial, could 1976 have been that last great year for new
Motown Music. Some was released in late '75 and enjoy the major parts of it's popularity in 1976. Let's revisit the "Spirit of '76" and what we can come up with!

I will start with this one:

I think a strong case could be made for 1978:

    Commodores - Natural High
    High Inergy - Turnin' On
Diana Ross - Baby, It's Me
    Switch - S/T
Rick James - Come Get It

    1979:
    Diana Ross - The Boss
Teena Marie - Wild & Peaceful
    Switch II
    Commodores - Midnight Magic
Smokey Robinson - Where There's Smoke...
Rick James - Fire It Up

1976 was in the words of Sinatra "a very good year", perhaps as good as any year that preceded it. I never realised just how much strong product came out that year. The company was certainly on a creative roll which continued to a lesser extent for the remainder of the 70's. Such great music and I own just about all of it.

Honestly, I'd say, up to 1985, before, regardless who's making hits on the brand later years, the term "Motown" becomes interchangeable with "Oldies".

I can agree with that! Motown was strong until at least 1985.

JAI, you have great insight! I have to pick 1978 as the greatest, but I also feel that 1976 was a great year.
