Damn. A Tribe Called Quest came in on the heels of De La Soul and those were two of the most creative and groundbreaking acts in hip hop. I was a bigger fan of De La Soul, but the influence of A Tribe Called Quest was more significant and appreciated by many of today's rappers. I never watched Michael Rapaport's documentary about them, which I understand showed the usual BS that crops up to destroy friends who have the good/bad fortune of finding success together in the music industry. I think I'll drag it out and watch it this weekend. RIP, Phife.

That was for me one of the best periods in hip hop, in fact, I pretty much enjoyed much of
what came out of that though short lived, very creative Native Tongue collective. Tribe, De La,
Jungle Brothers, Black Sheep too. They inspired quite a few others and I stayed tuned to the
genre on the monthly until the junk took over. Dang, Phife was too young. The other tragedy
is that today's hip hop fans probably consider him a dinosaur, a "who?" or irrelevant. RIP,
    brother....
