Marvin Gaye - I Want You Album is 40 years old today

I love that album so much that I have it as an oversized canvas having on my living room wall. Thank you Marvin. Thank you Ernie Barnes. Name: 20160315_100218.jpg

Great album. And while Marvin Gaye would continue to record classics like 'Got To Give It Up' & 'Sexual Healing', I Want You was the last LP from Gaye that I liked every song.

I forgot to mention Leon Ware too in my post. Again this is my favourite Marvin album.
A superior version would substitute "Come live with me angel" with the unedited version from the deluxe edition.

Leon Ware is one of Susaye Greene's ex-husbands.

Fantastic piece and interview. Jason King is so underappreciated; he wrote a spectacular piece on the erotics and politics of Luther Vandross's work years ago. Thank you.

I never cared much for this album. Too much slow mellow bedroom music for my taste.

I went right over to the local Kmart and bought it immediately. I thought it was a masterpiece
[[the music and the cover art). Everyone thought is was just so cool, so mature. As a teenager we all were always trying to be "mature" LOL! I played this album all through the summer of '76 and on into the end of the year, I listened to it regularly. Some bright music memories with this one.

I like this album but I always wished for a little more "punch" in the mix. It sounds quite flat to me.

You're welcome Marv, reading these notes is a good way to learn Spanish.

Not my favourite either. It is very good but falls just a little short of being an absolute classic in my opinion.

It is an excellent album and is considered a bona fide classic among true Soul music lovers.

We here in the black community of Detroit/Toledo did not have to rank this album to love it. We just did! It was played at every bar-b-que, house party, card party or other social gathering for an entire year.
