Diana Ross sings the Songs from Lady Sings the Blues

The announcement of Diana Ross Sings Songs of The Wiz reminded me of the "original" Lady Sings the Blues album I have had for years. Not until much later did I realize that the US soundtrack album was a double album, as we always "just" had the single vinyl disc Diana Ross Sings the Songs of Lady Sings the Blues. Just wondering. Was that only a European release? Or was the single disc also released in other countries?Name: Lady sings the blues.jpg

I had never heard of a single disc only; it was not released that way in Canada

I can't say that a single album wasn't released in the UK but the one I bought at the time was a double one.

What is the track listing of the single-disc version? I'm assuming they might have gotten rid of the dialogue?

Thanks for the listing. So it looks like they got rid of the dialogue, and the songs by Blinky and Michelle Aller.

What a shame to lose the Aller and Blinky songs.

Well, I got both versions now ;-) and it does make sense as the single disc album was more a Diana Ross album [[Diana Ross Sings the Songs of Lady Sings the Blues) than a soundtrack album.

Only the original double album was released in the UK Florence as TMSP 1131. Never knew that some territories had issued a slimmed down single LP version. Always something new to learn about Motown so thanks for highlighting this Jaap.
