'Cosby: The Women Speak': A powerful series of women's stories weighs heavily against

    Tonight on A&E:
Hearing the stories of Bill Cosby’s accusers is sad, tragic and necessary. Thursday night’s A&E special, in which more than a dozen of the embattled comedian’s alleged victims tell their stories to the camera, doesn’t put forth any accusations we haven’t heard before.
What it does is add dimension, because seeing the faces of the women Cosby allegedly drugged and raped drives home the point that this isn’t a horror movie, but a series of real-life events that changed lives and forced women to live with shame and secrets.
The documentary takes a straightforward approach. The women sequentially come on camera and tell what happened, or what they remember of it.
There’s no host and very little music. The stories are punctuated periodically with pictures of Cosby from his wildly successful TV, movie and pitchman careers.
Cosby’s attorney also gets screen time to say the allegations are legally unproven — and since the only court case was settled with a gag order, she’s right.

And maybe Cosby has an explanation for all of the more than 50 incidents that have been alleged.
It just keeps getting a little harder to believe that this many women would make up this many consistent stories of drugged drinks and sexual assault.
It’s easier to believe they kept quiet for decades because this was Bill Cosby and they felt alone.
Some of the women here still look shaken. Mostly they look relieved, that they can finally reveal this corrosive secret and not be further shamed.
    Sad and tragic

The man confessed to this. What more do you need?
