    Dream Duets

    Hi all,

We all know the well known or lesser known duets:
    Marvin + Mary
    Marvin + Kim
    Marvin + Tammi
    Marvin + Diana
    Diana + Lionel
    Diana + Smokey
    Diana + Bill [[Cosby)
    Edwin + Blinky
Chuck + Yvonne [[only on a cellar ful?)

Are there any classic Motown artist we are wishing to have done a duet?

For example, I am very curious how David Ruffin together with Blinky would sound, in a Norman Whitfield production.

Or Eddie Kendricks and Levi Stubbs.

    Any other thoughts? Opinions?

    Thelma Houston & Jerry Butler!
Reckon Barbara Randolph would've sounded good with a male partner!

I saw a video once where Luther was in audience and sang with Diana. And didn't he sing on one of Diana's RCA albums?
On YOU TUBE somebody put together a nice mix of Diana,Lionel, Mariah and Luther singing Endless Love

Yes, Luther joined Miss Ross at Radio Music City Hall for a duet during RTL. He also appeared on Silk Electric and Red Hot Rhythm and Blues, but in the background.

Dennis Edwards was supposed to record Don't Look Any Further with Chaka Khan but she was unavailable. I think that would have been an incredible pairing.

Although they did duet on one song, I would have loved to have had a whole album of Mary Wilson and Eddie Kendricks.

Oh yes, I remember this now. I love Mary on this; not so crazy about Eddie. Mary seems more expressive with her vocals on this version than the others.

RTL was at MSG, not Radio City Music Hall. Ross wanted the largest venue possible to carry out her evil, devilish show.

I actually wish that Marvin Gaye and Valerie Simpson would have recorded a legit album of duets. Regardless of how much you think val vocally contributed to "Easy", it's still considered part of the Marvin & Tammi canon. A Marvin and Valerie Simpson duet would have been more Upscale and sophisticad like Roberta Flack and Donny Hathaway and less Cotton candy like Marvin and Tammi. The pairing definately would have struck old in the mid 70s.

A couple of duets I wished had happened:

Mary Wells & Smokey - I know I Want You Around but wish there had been more. I'm totally happy with Mary and Marvin but she and Smokey had such a special musical relationship. Smokey saved some of his best arrangements for her so I could imagine there would have been some real nice music made.

Smokey & Claudette - I don't know the early Miracles albums all that well [[pre Going To A Go Go) but are there any duets between the two? She had such a sweet voice and rounded out the group sound so nicely. And the one solo number I heard of hers was quite nice. I really missed her sound when she stopped singing with them. But did they duet on any early Miracles material on albums? They should have done a duet album.

Marvin + Oma Page - they cut some really great songs together.

How would Martha & The Vandellas + The Isley Brothers have sounded? Or
Gladys Knight & The Pips + The Isley Brothers?

What a nice idea, but this might have meant that we would never have gotten the pairing of Nick & Val. That would have been a travesty.

This is more of a dream project: A Marvin Gaye and Tammi Terrell Christmas album circa 1967.

That was a good one Ross; would be so cool if such an album, or a few cuts like that existed.
