Many thanks to Westgrandboulevard for eight years of researching and posting significant birthdays -- more than 2 million views. I looked forward to the quotes of the day.
Here is just one example of his many contributions:
September 16th:
Quote for the Day:
"I haven't had the chance to see it, but the fact that they saw fit to put up that statue is beyond my wildest dreams.
Any time that people think enough of you to put up something that is everlasting is only going to make you feel good.
I think that other than Elvis, I am Memphis's favourite son - I'm pretty close to number two.
The thing about Elvis is that he is a lot more popular now in death than he was when he was alive - but I would rather that they come while I'm here."
- interview with The Guardian, 2001 -
On his Birthday, remembering B. B. King [Riley B. King; 1925-2015]; blues singer, electric guitarist, songwriter and record producer....
Roger, Nina tells me that you are ending the birthday thread. Please accept my most heartfelt thanks for this major contribution to Soulful Detroit. Threads like this have contributed to the success and diversity of the website and will be missed by many, I'm sure. Looking forward to any future postings with your name on it. Once again, Thank you, Roger. Well done.
September 18th:
Quote for the Day:
[But this time, from me.........!]
Hi 9A & Ralph,
Very many thanks to you both, for your kind words!
Thanks also to Lowell, for his message of congratulations when I recently eased past the 100,000 post mark.
I actually 'lurked' here for several years, before finally registering as a member when the website was updated in August 2010.
I couldn't believe I was able to use the name 'westgrandboulevard'.
Lowell said "I can shorten it for you"; I couldn't resist responding "No thank you Lowell, I would like it kept in full, please!"
Coming from the UK, I then felt I would really have to go some, to warrant using that name - but admit that I have felt 'imposter syndrome' to this very day.....and Adam White, with his West Grand Blog, is the real deal.
In the days ahead, I may not be posting on every single one of them as before, but all is well with me here. Just that there are a number of other activities which seem to need my attention, and also some others to which I now would simply like to give my attention.
Time has started to seem short, when viewed in clear focus.
My aunt [last surviving elder relative] recently died, one day short of her 101st Birthday - on no medication except for painkillers, as and when required. Same with me to date, so I am very fortunate - and which I, at 73, was reminded recently by a lady doctor young enough to be any grand-daughter I might have had in another life!
'At your age' are words which I seem to hear more frequently, but I guess they do help me keep it real.
So, I intend to keep active for as long as ever possible, to earn my good luck.
Here, on Soulful Detroit, I will be largely reverting to the status of 'lurker', so life would seem to have now come full circle.
But I will continue to post, any time the mood strikes me....
It has all been such a ball. I have to think that moving at my own speed here, in being a part of the Soulful Detroit community, has in many ways been the most significant part of my entire life...and for more reasons than I care to say right here.
Be it reading all the informative posts from extremely knowledgeable members on the Motown and Diana Ross/Supremes forum - for example, Robb_k, theboyfromxtown, juicefree20 and many more [why would real Motown fans need to go anywhere else?], as well as the Soulful Detroit forum for discussion of soul music and history.
Or in concentrating my own efforts on the Clubhouse forum, where the threads and daily posts clearly attract millions of views.
And by doing so, finding myself in the company of certain esteemed members who made me feel welcome to the party. And including some who have since passed....remembering Marv2, Midnight Johnny....
So I am still very eager to read the contributions from my fellow members with whom I have, over the years, worked closest on the 'social' side of Soulful Detroit.....
Including Sophisticated_Soul, Sansradio, Moe [a legendary leading lady of Soulful Detroit...smile], Jerry Oz, Gary_James, Jobeterob, 144man, Arr&bee, TomatoTom123, together with many more well recognised names....
And, of course, both of you, Ralph and Nina [9A].
A combined total of over 270,000 posts between all of you named above, earning many millions of views for Soulful Detroit, let alone all the other members. I may have done reasonably well in support, but very far from doing it alone.
May each one of you good people continue with Soulful Detroit for just as long as you have the time to do so.
Make this day, and every other day, a day to remember. And sometimes, a Birthday......smile...
Happy Days to you all!

I enjoyed your post of 9/18, Roger. Thank you for including me with such esteemed members of SD, I appreciate that. I've become semi-retired myself, outside of Word Association I seldom post anymore. Looks like we've both come full circle as former lurkers.
For the foreseeable future I will of course continue to enjoy dropping in to post with my fellow Word Associates. When you and I were both very active we had a great run. Thank you for that, Roger.
