    Stephen Austin
    (1793-1836) :
    Virginian born, and Missouri raised empresario; known as the Father of Texas. Led the second and ultimate successful colonisation of Texas with the introduction of 300 families. The Republic of Texas was created by a new constitution on March 2nd, 1836. Both Austin, capital of Texas, and Austin County are named in his honour.
