If anyone here on SDF has their own birthday today, July 7th - or who will be remembering a special someone who was born on this date, including those who have passed away - then please let us know, and have a great day!

Under no circumstances! It is imperative that it remain a complete secret.

The description 'three-ring circus' wouldn't even come close to picturing what could happen next....

Today we remember Earl Van Dyke, who was born on this date in 1930, and passed away in 1992.

To remember, all we need to do is play very many of the Motown tracks recorded in Detroit, and there he will be, featured on the keyboard. Or, 'The Motown Sound - The Complete Albums & More'.....

Anyone have a favourite track which features Earl Van Dyke?

Also, if anyone shares their birth date with Earl Van Dyke, or has a special someone who was born on this date, including anyone who has passed away, then say hello here - and have a great day!

Well, death may end a life, but not a relationship...and of course, I'm meaning hearing from someone alive, who is remembering someone who has passed away [[as you very well know...)..... but the thought of hearing from someone 'on the other side' doesn't bother me.

Well, if it did, I wouldn't be responding to any of your posts....

So, talking long distance, what's your favourite Earl Van Dyke track?

That sounds a good idea. Spending 364 days a year celebrating a birthday, which you then can't remember, and start all over again...

'I Can't Help Myself'...where I assume his piano is dubbed over his own playing on the band track. To me, it all sounds weirdly discordant [[as if the record is warped!) but strangely compulsive....

That, and 6 x 6...just to name two.....

Remembering Johnny Griffith, another of the Funk Brothers, who was born on this date, July 10th, in 1936. He passed away in 2002.

I believe that is Johnny playing the electric piano we hear on Marvin Gaye's "I Heard It Through The Grapevine".

Anyone else sharing their birth date today with Johnny Griffith?

July 11th, and hoping Bonnie Pointer is well, happy and in touch with her sisters on her 65th birthday today.

Also remembering Roquel 'Billy' Davis, born on this date in 1932. Co-writer [[as Tyran Carlo) of 'Reet Petite [[The Finest Girl You Ever Want To Meet'), 'Lonely Teardrops', 'To Be Loved', 'You Got What It Takes' and more....

Anyone to be added to the list....?

You thought right! Billy Davis, as 'Tyran Carlo', co-wrote 'Got A Job' with Berry Gordy, which was the first single for [[Smokey Robinson &) The Miracles. Released on End Records, in 1958. It was an 'answer' record to The Silhouettes 'Get A Job'....and also around was 'I Found A Job' by The Heartbeats, 'I Got A Job' by The Tempos, 'I Got Fired' by The Mistakes. That series of titles sounds like a thread here on SDF, doesn't it....

Will check out some more Tyran Carlo songs, while wondering if anyone here is having a birthday today, or remembering someone else who is/had....

More songs which credit 'Tyran Carlo' as composer :

    Jim Dandy Got Married
    It's So Fine
    both recorded by LaVern Baker

Just For Your Love - The Falcons

All I Could Do Was Cry - Etta James

That's Why [[I Love You So)
    I'll Be Satisfied
both recorded by - Jackie Wilson

and Billy Davis also produced, for the Coca-Cola company, the jingle "I'd Like To Buy The World A Coke", which later became "I'd Like To Teach The World To Sing [[In Perfect Harmony)".....

Happy Birthday to anyone born today, July 13th!

Nice words Arr&bee, thank you, but I'm far less a music authority than many here [[including yourself) although I do have a reasonable recall....assuming I knew the information in the first place, that is....LOL

Now, I wasn't aware we were talking SO much trash around here....!! Not intentionally, anyway. It's good to keep it light, and to keep it going...and the 'views' do indicate that some people are interested.

So, unless anyone here lets us know it is their birthday today, July 14th, let's all have a happy unbirthday.

Yes, it's so unofficial, that it's official!

Today, July 15th, is officially Millie Jackson's birthday. So...."Anybody here don't like Millie Jackson.....etc, etc.." [[!)

If you like Linda Ronstadt, or are into artists like Rembrandt...well, it's their birthdays, too!

Whatever you are doing today, enjoy it...
