Still reigning Supreme: Mary Wilson is coming to Manchester!

The Baby Love singer will perform at the Legends Live Tour 2015 coming to the Manchester Arena

Mary Wilson is a founding member of one of the greatest girlbands of all time.

She was once credited by Motown founder Berry Gordy as the glue that held The Supremes together.

The Detroit singer enjoyed international stardom with a stream of much-loved hits including Baby Love, Stop In The Name Of Love, You Can’t Hurry Love and Where Did Our Love Go.

And she will be bringing back memories of the time the famous Motown girl group reigned supreme in the 1960s when she performs their greatest hits as part of a legends tour coming to Manchester later this year. And some lucky fans might be invited to join Mary on stage.

Mary, 71, said: “We all had hit records in the 60s and 70s and I will be singing all The Supremes hits.

“We had at least 10 or 12 number ones.

“People always ask ‘do you have a favourite?’ but they are like children, you love them all.

“Some of the favourites are Stop In The Name Of Love, Baby Love, Reflections and Stop In The Name Of Love.

“If I have time I’ll invite people on stage with me. “

Mary formed The Supremes with childhood friends Diana Ross and the late Florence Ballard, who was replaced by Cindy Birdsong in 1967.

Ross left the group in 1970 and was replaced by Jean Terrell. Mary worked hard to keep the group intact until The Supremes finally disbanded following her own departure in 1977.

    The Supremes

She went on to become a solo artist, motivational speaker, author and a curator of various displays of The Supremes’ famous glitzy stage costumes.

Mary, who will perform alongside fellow musical legends Roberta Flack, Dionne Warwick and The Drifters on the 2015 Legends Live Tour at Manchester Arena on Tuesday October 6, promises full-on 60s-style glamour on the night.

She said: “We were known for our glamour, our hairstyles, our beehives and our big eyelashes – and I will give you all of that.

“The beads, the sequins – I like to keep the glamour. I will be all glammed up like in the 60s and 70s.

“I have worked with Dionne throughout the years and Roberta Flack I have admired from afar.”

Mary says she still sees Chain Reaction singer Ross from time to time as they ‘criss-cross’ around the world, although not as much as they would like. And she hasn’t ruled out the idea of the pair stepping on stage together again.

“It’s not over until the fat lady sings so you never know,” she laughed. “As long as I’m not the fat lady.”
