20 Top Bass Players of All Time

I just ran across this link this morning of the 20 top bassists of all times.

2 things will shock most of us:

    1) The ranking of James Jamerson
2.) Who ranked #1 [[coming from the LA Weekly might explain this selection)

Add Larry Graham's very low position to the shocks. And where the hell is Louis Johnson?!?!???

In this list, Jamerson gets a better ranking as "under-rated."

This is one of the dumbest lists I've seen in my life. If you're going to include Mingus, then you have to include all jazz bass players, and it would be a list of jazz bass players mainly, maybe with Jamerson somewhere in the teens. So they should take Mingus out and only compare electric bass players. But they got those rankings ridiculously off too. Carole fucking Kaye ahead of Jamerson? Start a petition to get this writer fired. Jerry Jemmott not on the list? Babbitt? I mean come on, do your research.

Digitaldreamdoor list of 100 Greatest Rock Bass Guitarists...

Much better list we put together a few years back following actual criteria [[Influence, Innovation, Creativity, Originality, Versatility, and Technical Skill). These selections were debated for months by actual bass players representing various genres. Not everyone's personal favorite is going to be listed where everyone thinks they should be, but at least this list was based on SOMETHING, unlike many of these other lists based strictly on popularity...

*Note...We started on a slight rework of this list at some point...Notable changes were Bob Babbitt, Joe Osborn, and Pino Palladino who moved fairly significantly up the list, however, the rework was never completed following several months of discussions...

Interesting list as well in that these bassists are just not as recognized by the so called rock "establishment" largely made up of fanboys and writers...not real musicians who tend to base their selections for these polls on popularity and who played on records they like or belong to their favorite bands, with less emphasis on actual skill and ability...
