Marvin gaye 6.5 minutes of classic performance on video 1964

I suspect I might be the last person to have seen this, but in case someone else hasn't seen it, I thought I'd post it. Although I have read numerous accounts of how Marvin couldn't dance and felt awkward, I think he looks very agile and energised on this performance.

I get tired of reading about how Marvin couldn't dance. POPPYCOCK! Lol the man can dance. Obviously not to the level of Jackie Wilson and James Brown but compared to Otis Redding and Sam Cooke, Marvin moved better than those two did by a long shot! Seriously have you seen Sam "dance"? He was the one with the two left feet, Marvin had some moves and then some imho lol

Second to James, I think Marvin had the best of the performances from the T.A.M.I. Show.

I prefer this version of Hitch HIke over the studio version. The piano is cooking.

With Darlene Love and the Blossoms singing background, it's from Shindig!.

    And it's some real/great live singing, not s****y lip-synching. [[I hate lip -synching !)

This clip is from the film THE T.A.M.I. SHOW

Marvin thought that he couldn't dance but he obviously could. I'm currently reading the book written by his second wife Jan, and she writes how Marvin and the Jacksons once shared a bill. Michael was praising Marvin, but Marvin responded that he couldn't dance like Michael.

^^ The Blossoms were on the T.A.M.I. Show too [[see them in the James Brown clip at the end where they're cheering James on in the background). Marvin wore a white suit during his T.A.M.I. Show set [[if I'm not mistaken, Usher wore that exact same suit when he performed as Marvin on American Dreams). When he was on Shindig, he wore a black tux ensemble on one show w/the Blossoms singing How Sweet It Is:

On another show, he wore a white tux [[similar to the T.A.M.I. Show) singing Can I Get a Witness.

marvin's t.a.m.i. show gig is probably his best early live performance. everybody talks about james brown and the stones, but they always seem to try too hard. gaye was cool as a cucumber and didn't break a sweat. the blossoms [[sorry andantes) were the best background singers and that is leon russell on the piano. what a show! marvin in too dang sexy.

I like how the two dancers come out to join him with some serious shimmy action that
manages to not be overly sexual. Quite a contrast from today's music videos which many
might as well be considered pornography. I have nothing against porn but hey, there's a place
    for everything...Today it's everything everywhere...

MG made it look so damn easy, didn't he? And I agree, the Blossoms were the background singers of their generation.

But I think the only reason JB [[and the Stones) went there was because JB was mad the Stones were going on after his group so he was like "lemme show 'em". So when the Stones finally got on stage, they didn't know how to react! LMAO!

But yeah Marvin was definitely a huge standout on that show.

It's amazing how things have changed in 50 years, right?

Back then, all you have to do to be sexy was just sing it and make a few looks, nowadays, if you ain't topless or anything or grinding on someone, you're tame. SMH

Marvin was the one who had the male "it" factor at Motown.

^ He sure did. I know people have tried to say such and such male vocalists had it but MG truly had that it factor down pat.

The first clip in this post is from TAMI Show. The Blossoms were backup singers for this show. Over the years it has been incorrectly stated that this was a TV special, but it was not. It was a movie that played in movie theatres. It was filmed at the Santa Monica Civic Theatre in Pasadena, CA. It has also been incorrectly stated over the years that Dick Clark produced this film, but he did not. He did do a TV special on the tenth anniversary of this movie where he interviewed several performers and showed clips from the film. And, yes, I agree that Marvin gives a great performance here. My favorite in the whole show, however, is the Miracles doing "Mickey's Monkey".

About a year after TAMI, Phil Spector produced a similar movie called The Big TNT Show. Like TAMI, it also played at movie theatres, but wasn't nearly as good. The best performance for me in TNT is Ike & Tina Turner. The movie also includes the Ronettes, Ray Charles, Bo Diddley and a whole lot of acts that I found boring who seemed to have an endless amount of time to perform.

^ I don't think no one would argue against I&TT being the standout from the Big TNT Show. I don't think they were the headlining act [[I think the Ronettes went after them?) But I agree, that show was nowhere near memorable as the T.A.M.I. Show and yeah the Miracles kicked butt on there too.
