Artist Who Passed On In 2014 List

I just saw WGN's list which was short and left off some key names [[Bobby Womack, Jimmy Ruffin) to name a couple. That got me to thinking about so many others that didn't make it to the new year. Please post who you remember from the world of entertainment.

We sure lost a lot of great ones last year and I'd like to say RIP to each and every one. That
said, the lost that hit me the hardest was that of Jessica Cleaves and I guess that has me a
bit disappointed that in the vimeo video above the picture of The Friends Of Distinction
that is tagged with her name does not feature her image. The women there are Barbara Love
and Charlene Gibson. Jess as some know was a significant member of three major acts in
soul/R&B music , FOD, EWF, and P-Funk. I'll always miss her...

Wonderful tribute by Colton, a young man whom has always had his funger on the pulse of our old-school artists.

Many of the names hit home pretty hard, but none more than that of the legend, Jimmy Scott whom was one of the nicest & warmest I've ever had the pleasure of meeting.

My condolences to you Soul Sister. Between Jimmy, Blue, Sonny & Deon, this year has had to have been tough on you.

Many thanks for this post, Mary. And a big thanks goes out to Colton Thomas for a very touching and moving tribute. I was close to tears watching this. I didn't realize how many people we lost this year.

May they all rest in peace; they will truly be missed...

I also learned just today that Sista Monica Parker died back in October. I had never seen that mentioned anyplace else before today.

I am sure many of you will not know her but she was a blues/gospel singer with a ferocious, barrelhouse sound. Think Katie Webster but with a lot more fire. She had been around for about 20 years and released almost a dozen albums, but never made it in the mainstream. She called herself the Windy City Burner, although I really thought she was based in San Francisco.

She had recovered from one bout with cancer but lost her second battle and died at the age of 58.

    Juice,
Very, very tough this year losing friends and the love of my life Jimmy, as you can imagine none more painful than losing my husband. Spending every minute of everyday with him for 15 years and now to be without him left life so empty. No one will ever know how much I miss his constant presence here with me. He's around me but not the same as him being able to speak to me when I speak to him.

Deon, he was and I was just 19 years old when I met him, I guess you can say the biggest star I met in my beginning of following the music. Thinking back he was the nicest person I met in the business up until I met Jimmy decades later who was the best person I ever met on many levels of kindness and sincerity.

Blue, & Sonny [[whom was Smitty's best friend) although I didn't always run into them over the years as much as I did Gerald, Phil [[one of my BFF's) or even Kenny, I did see Blue & Gerald from time to time with and without Jimmy in recent years. We went along way back to Jersey City and some bitter sweet memories. Losing them a week apart was quite shocking.

The choir in heaven must be out of sight!

YES! Colton did a fabulous job on his tribute as I already told him when he posted his vid on my FB Page. Moving and Beautiful.
