a lot of talk about it on soul source. Apparently due for release on London but shelved at last minute....issued later by EMI Stateside. Demo copy [[ies) lifted from pressing plant by employee!

Not quite Mr Snakepit ... my understanding is that a number of Demos were sent out by London/Decca back in 1966 but until a few months back everyone on the U.K. Soul Scene believed that no regular/stock copies on London had ever been pressed up as EMI/Stateside obtained the rights to the release.

Certainly the demo version of the London release has been included in discographies for ages ... with Record Collector giving a guide price for a mint copy at £850 [[about US$1400) in 2008.

A scan of the London demo can be seen here .....

It seems that a handful of stock copies must have been manufactured and it was one of those that was "lifted" by some employee and has only recently been rediscovered.

I do have a good condition copy of the Stateside 45 which will have to do for now ....

I know about the controversy as to who wrote the song and that Donnie Elbert won in the courts.... how about this spurious claim....

I agree, Larry. But, I also like Jackie Wilson's and Na Allen's.

It's a great song, and I know that the UK London version is rare as hell...but if I had that kinda money, I'd pass on this so I can buy tons more other records...just sayin'...

    Best,

The final bid was £14,543 [[just under US$23,000), so it didn't quite surpass the FRANK WILSON record in the end.

Time to check those lofts and attics I think folks!!

As I've just worked 3 weeks for Royal Mail as a casual Christmas parcel sorter, I sincerely hope this 45 isn't sent via parcel post...........believe me, FRAGILE means nothing.
I would give any would be record buyer a tip..........NEVER buy 3 weeks before Christmas.
