    Flairs - Where You Live

Stumbled upon this mid-tempo gem on YT by the Flairs.

Does anyone know anything about this group and where their recording label Rap hailed from? Someone mentioned on the comments that the lead singer was from Chicago and that the group had changed their name to the Velvets in the 70's.

I'm sure I have that song by a different Chicago group. This recording sounds like a Chicago recording.

I also seem to remember having one or two Flairs' records on small late-60s Chicago labels. This would have been answered already if Bob A. were still with us.

Yes, they were definitely from Chicago, and recorded there. Here's The Flairs' original version. It was produced by famous Chicago Soul producer, James Shelton, who owned Daran Records, the home of some of the earliest Chi-Lites [[Hi-Lites) records. This was their 2nd record, after their first release on Chicago's Southtown Records. The group consisted of members: Dubois Shelton [[James Shelton's son),Kennis Jones,Richard Burton, and Walter Hughes.

Here's The Chicago Flairs' group's first record on Southtown Records, "I Want You", produced by Darnell Glover , and its flip, "All I Need":

Thanks so much, robb! I also like their first version of "WYL" as well as "All I Need". Excellent harmonies. Another great find on YT!
