    S D F Top 40 Countdown for Casey

Let's do a Top 40 Countdown For the great Casey Kasem
and our own member the great Jimmy Scott

THE ONLY RULE IS that it has to be a positive song,
and about the love of a human being.

Each SDF'er can nominate 1 song.

    I will start it off.

At # 40 You Made Me Feel Brand New
by our member Russell Thompkins Jr. and the New Stylistics

It is O K if you want to play the 1974 version

    # 40 starts it off

For me it would have to be this one ...
    #36

I've always considered that this is where Mr Kasem got his catchphrase "keep your feet on the ground, and keep reaching for the stars" from, as there is a similar line in the song ...

I'll always remember Casey for some of his warm responses to listeners who contacted his AT40 show. On one occassion I think the listener wanted to get in contact with someone they'd lost touch with and he dedicated this song to them. I found it very moving:

21 Dionne Warwick's "Do You Believe in Love at First Sight", a totally hot song from an amazing album that somehow just got lost in the shuffle.

edafan...Although "Lean On Me" by Terry Callier shares the same title as the Bill Withers song it is not the same song. The song comes from TC's excellent "Occasional Rain" album & was written by him.

I believe Melba Moore also had an outstanding song of the same title that was popular arou nd 1976.

18 So far I have picked songs because they were among my favorites, but this time trying to fit the spirit of the thread, how about "Best Thing That Ever Happened to Me" by Gladys Knight and the Pips?

    Just to let you know,
These were the last words my late great wife, an English teacher, said to me before she passed away on April 16, 2012

Although this is just in fun, wouldn't that song sort of go against the grain of the rest of them? The OP said that we should pick songs that are positive in their message and exhibit happiness or excitement. This one, although one of Glady's all-time greats, is definitely a sad song of regret.

david you may be correct, but that song has so much soul and so much meaning I am going to allow it be in here.

When I hear that song it reminds me of the last few minutes with my late great wife.
Neither one of us wants to be the first to say goodbye. We didn't say goodbye. When she could only hear, and not speak, I said to my son,"Go save those lives of those children with your work at Genzyme", and we were each holding her hand, and she nodded in agreement, and she passed away.

    # 13 Since we are stuck, I will do my part to finish the thread.........as we all know, the incomparable Phyllis Hyman sang primarily about pain and heartbreak. But she did the occasional upbeat, celebratory song. So for this thread, I would nominate "You Sure Look Good to Me."
