IIt's one of Norman Whitfield's best early productions. The Velvelettes could have given the Ronettes a run in the tough sounding girl group race. Cal sounded older & wiser than she was. The Velvelettes may have been fourth on the priority list, but none of the other group's recorded anything as good as this.

^ I agree. It's a shame, they could've gave both the Ronettes and Shangri-Las a run for their money!
I'll bet if we could turn back time, and have all four of Motown's female groups receive equal amounts of push for their records and just let the public decide which songs were the biggest hits, the Velvelettes would have held their own against the other three groups.
In terms of singing )[[or even the instrumentals on their recordings) The Shangri-Las shouldn't be mentioned in the same sentence as The Velvelettes.
