    It was indeed a good read and the footage of JB and the group was a treat too. I like the full
    studio version of Payback very much, always have and always wondered who the song was
    inspired by. Same for Talking Loud and Saying Nothing. After reading several biographies of
    James I'm sure Joe Tex gave James more than competiton....

    I never tire of playing Payback. I ordered it on import as soon as it was released. Roughly 40 years ago give or take. I didn't think JB could get any better but this to me is the best and that's saying something. Mine was probably the first time it had been heard around Oxford clubs. I took it everywhere I went and gave it to DJs to play along with other new US releases. IIRC I got Act one's Tom the Peeper, Mandrill's Fencewalk and Gladys Knight's "I got to use my imagination" in the same order, those were singles.
    Payback is way up there with the best Funk records if not the top.
