    Martha & the WHO?

Anyone know who these Vandellas are? I don't recognise either of them.

    According to Martha:

VANDELLA: It's a name given to the back-ground singers that I have employed over the years. ROSALIND ASHFORD, ANNETTE HELTON, and GLORIA WILLLIAMSON, were the DEL-PHIS. Because of former contractual stipulations, we had to come up with a new name for a song entitled "I'LL HAVE TO LET HIM GO", released in 1961. BETTY KELLEY, SANDRA JACKSON, SANDRA TILLEY, ALPHANETTE SILAS, VONCIELLE FAGGETT, PATTY HOWARD, CLYDIE KING, BARBARA KING, JANICE SINGLETON, LISA McCALL, DEBRA STEVERSON, JAISON EPPS, JAQUE SHELBY, EUDORA REEVES, REGINA CARGHILL, JEAN TRIMBLE, SALLI ALEXANDER, BERYL MARSDEN, CHERYL DANIELS, SANDY BOMAR, KRISTIE WOODARD, ROCHELLE YOUNG, MARION JOHNSON, DELPHINE REEVES, CAROLYN CRAWFORD, KAREN MCMURRAY, are just a small number of ladies who have graced my stage, and "DANCED IN THE STREET."

These two you are questioning are: Voncielle Faggett and Patty Howard.

First time seeing those photos. Very interesting. Just when you think you've seen and know their entire history, something else shows up. Thanks for posting. Does anyone know how long Voncielle and Patty sang behind MR? And who does one pronounce Voncielle's last name??

LOL RH. I think it might be French?

It looks as though these pics are from 1978. My understanding was that Martha had "Vandellas" in the States as well as in the UK. I'd speculate and say this was due to travel costs.

Hmm, that's interesting how she categorizes a Vandella... technically Martha had always been perceived as a main act. I wonder how that was like though with the "classic" Vandellas lineups.

I saw Martha perform in Vegas three times. Twice [[in 1995 and 1998) she was backed by Annette and Rosalind. The third time, she was backed by Carolyn Crawford & Karen [[Pree) McMurray.

Just watched the above clip from SHA NA NA and saw this clip of Martha and Barry Manilow. Looks to be from the same era.

Great clip of Barry and Martha. This looks to be around the time he was performing his famous "VSM" medley.

Forum members may be interested to know the three ladies singing backup are called "Lady Flash". Members included Reparata Mazzola, whom you may recoginze from Reparata and the Delrons.

    "Very Strange Medley".

You should YouTube it, it's a hoot.

It's basically a medley of all of the "jingles" he wrote over the years. You'd be surprised to hear which ones belong to him....
