J.R. Bailey - A Most UNDERRATED Soul Artist

J.R. Bailey gave us some very wonderful, yet very unsung songs. For instance...

There's this tremendously beautiful, yet horribly neglected ballad, J.R. Bailey's "All Strung Out Over You"...

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K0Leg...hJw&playnext=1

One hell of a song & it should've been MONSTROUS!!!

Here's another great ballad from 1974...

"You Pass My Love Like A Moving Train"

    "Alone In The Morning"...

    "Not Too Long Ago"...

"Everything I Want I See In You"

    "She Called Me"...

The mellow "The Eyes Don't Know The Feeling" from 1976...

"That's Love" from 1977's "Love & Conversation" LP...

His dance cut "Too Late" wasn't too bad either...

    http://www.youtube.com/watch#!v=iaTF...eature=related

Here's one that I never heard before, a 1982 cover of Al Green's "I'm Still In Love With You" [[I could do without all of the electronics)...

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xc9TgyRgOO0

And a couple of his charters...

"Love Won't Wear Off", a great memory from Thanksgiving/Christmas of 1968 & the first time I became aware of J.R., being totally unaware of his DooWop past. Hey, I was only 8...

    http://www.youtube.com/watch#!v=WB_6...eature=related

The hypnotically beautiful "Love, Love, Love". This version is far & away my favorite...

J.R. had one hell of a voice & how solo stardom escaped his grasp, I'll never know!

J.R. also was one hell of a composer. Besides writing "Love, Love, Love" [[which was also recorded by Donny Hathaway & Tom Jones), he also co-authored the Main Ingredient classic "Everybody Plays The Fool".

I liked J.R. Bailey's work as a songwriter too. He wrote Everybody Plays The Fool for The Main Ingredient. But it seemed to
me that later in his career he fell under the spell of Marvin Gaye in his writing and began to produce all of these thematic
ballads that used basically the same chords, intervals and keys. Unfortunately he died in 1980 before he could move on from that but for the life of me I cannot recall what the cause of his passing was...

    Hi this is Kev-Lo

Yes J.R. Baily was pretty much underrrated and he made some great songs. I meet him here in New York just before has passing and he was a very nice guy. My favorite from him is I'm All Strung Out Over You.
