See You Later, Alligator - Bobby Charles, Bill Haley & His Comets
Right Or Wrong - Wanda Jackson
Well that's saved me a job. I can't argue with any of those choices:)
Right String But the Wrong Yo-Yo - Piano Red
I Sold My Heart to the Junkman - The Blue-belles
Time in A Bottle - Jim Croce
I thought royalties were split equally between a- and b-sides of singles, which would have meant that HDH earned as much from "Ask Any Girl" as they did from "Baby Love".
Mama's Pearl's A Singer - Jackson 5/ Elkie Brooks
"In My Lonely Room" was big enough in Philadelphia to inspire "Candy & the Kisses "The 81".
I still think that both "Dace Party" and "Mobile Lil the Dancing Witch" would have made stronger singles...
"I-2-3" is as much like "Ask Any Girl" as "It May Be Winter Outside" is like "Everything Is Good About You".
Additionally "Everything But Love" is very similar to "Jerk & Twine".
I'll Always Love My Mama - The O'Jays
Well remembered! I'd completely forgotten about the "Canadian Sunset"/ "Tenderly" parallel.
That does indeed give credence to the Mary Wells theory. It also gives me the chance to do a quick plug...
Leave It In the Hands of Love - Martha & Vandellas
Tomorrow Never Knows - The Beatles
Yesterday Today & Forever - 3 LP Holland-Dozier-Holland sampler
The tracks are nice enough, but in all honesty I don't think any of them are quite good enough to have been made the A-side of a single.
And That Reminds Me - Della Reese
This might be a good time to mention that the "Spectorius" label was one of Abner Spector's and had nothing to do with Phil Spector.
Marv, thank you so much for posting this.
I hope that every other member will see this thread and realise what an asset to the forum you are.
A lot of singers were adopting that style then, so it probably sounds more similar to Mary Wells now than it did at the time.
I could imagine Jr Walker recording this.
I agree with Marv and Bluebrock that Jackie Ross's original version of "Selfish One" is better than Diana Ross's revival.
The Day My Heart Stood Still - Ollie Jackson
