wow, was that Sammy?I met them both at Yvonnes house in Calif. through Mary Wells. Yvonne was really nice.I had been a fan since her James Brown days. Thanks for posting this.Great memories.
Phil would not buy chart positions.Alot of those records were really bigger hits then their chart positions would have you think. The business side could be very shady.
I think the Ronettes would have been a much bigger act if Ronnie had not gotten personally involved with Phil.
My fave solo record by Eddie, thanks for posting.
Billy Stewart was a GREAT artist and a wonderful person, too.I spent quite a few hours with him & his wife, Juanita in 1966. Billy was co-star to Wilson Pickett on this particular tour.
Great find.The original group.
Loved this 45.
the BEST...Bootsy & Catfish, Jabo on drums, Fred Wesley & St. Clair keepin the horns strong. The beautiful Ann Norman dancing & ofcourse Bobby Byrd. Nobody could work a stage like James Brown.
OMG, thanks so much. I hope her family sees this.

Dionne Warwick could sing the phone book & make it sound good.
Len Barry was a GREAT singer and one of the very few White singers I liked in the 60's. The Dovells had some great records with Len on lead. Although I never personally met Len, Dee Dee Sharp, The...
On "Return of the Marvelettes" "Uptown" IS The Marvelettes.
thats the first Motown 45 I bought by Tammi, I had heard on the radio and the dj said she was Tammy Montgomery formerly with James Brown & that sent me to the record shop.
socialism KILLS competition & creativity. I have extended family that are slaves in Cuba.
WOW, I'm so sorry to read this today that Marv Davis has passed away. I sincerley hope he did not suffer. He was a major contributor to soulfuldetroit as long as I can remember and was very devoted...
I bought my first rock n roll 45 in 1961, I was 10 & it is "Bye, Bye Baby" my all time fave singer Mary Wells. Still have about 200 original Motown 45's and alot of the original Lps. I really should...

Rest In Peace. He sure lived a long life.
looks like its from "Swingin Time" . The TV studio was in Windsor Canada near Detroit. All the Motown singers did that show.
"Stop & Get A Hold of Myself" is one of the BEST Gladys Knight & the Pips records.
