I believe she did a 1978 engagement at Radio City that featured the show with the movie screen. She probably sang REMEMBER ME then.
If I remember correctly, the version of WAITING IN THE WINGS on the cassingle is the same version that appears on the FOREVER DIANA boxed set, the alternate version with a sax solo by Gerald...
In the US, an alternate version of WAITING IN THE WINGS was released on cassingle.
Also in the US, YOU'RE GONNA LOVE IT was released as a 12", cassette maxi-single, and a cd maxi-single.
Recently Culture Factory released BABY IT'S ME on pink vinyl, THE BOSS has on red vinyl, and diana on clear vinyl (a Barnes and Nobel exclusive).
DIANA EXTENDED was released on white vinyl.
...
A nice fantasy though. :-)
The longer this pandemic lasts, I suspect we'll see some artists connecting with their fans in ways they wouldn't have even considered two years ago. Some more creative...
I have a promo album for LADY SINGS THE BLUES, with a script for a dj to insert himself in to ask Diana questions. But I don't think it has any songs on it and it might have been released by...
I remember there being slight differences in versions of this program. I know I ended up with at least two of this one.
When I saw her in April 1979, she sang the THEME FROM MAHOGANY as a stand-alone. That was the only time I ever saw her perform it that way in concert.
And no songs from LADY as well.
That was the 1979 settlement. I think Mary sued again after MOTOWN 25.
I bought the 1982 program for $6, cut it up, and was happy that I could buy the same program when I saw her again in 1984. But I don't remember if she changed the price.
I actually got another...
In her DREAMGIRL/SUPREME FAITH combo, Mary wrote that Berry told her he sold the name along with everything else in the company for the token payment of $1.
And it only cost $3.00!! I thought it was a fortune when she charged $6.00 for the 1982 program.
I have many Diana programs from concerts over the years. But my fave is the 1977 program from my first Diana concert, the AN EVENING WITH DIANA ROSS tour.
There's a nice opening section written...
Now I understand.
Yes, the expanded Paris set is one of the best reissues. Even the songs that have technical issues are still worth having.
Back in the early 80s, I discovered an 8-track of...
There was a blurb in JET that said Diana's sell-outs made it impossible for Peter Allen to do his engagement. So Radio City booked Carnegie Hall for him instead.
Back in 1987, a bootleg label named Motorcity Records put out two cds called CAPTURED LIVE! One was a combo of the LIVE ON STAGE Marvelettes and Mary Wells albums with additional live performances...
I'm still getting over the $30 top ticket price. LOL. Those really were the days.
I will say that 70 minutes does seem rather short for a Diana concert, at least back then. Nowadays this is about...
More than likely. The film is released on Friday, I believe.
The only live version I've seen a recording of is that from her 1979 HBO special.
I've seen her sing it in concert in 1979, 1982, and 1984. But in the many concerts I've seen since 1984, she's...
I wasn't at Radio City but I saw Diana a week or two later at Boston Garden and she performed REMEMBER ME, with the call-and-response ending. But as I remember it, when she got to that section, she...
They met for the first time when they performed the song on THE TONIGHT SHOW.
I always loved the closing scene in MAHOGANY where Tracy, hidden in the crowd at Brian's campaign rally, yells out "I'm a widow from the South Side..." and all the rest.
AIN'T NO MOUNTAIN HIGH ENOUGH was originally a Tammi solo recording to which Marvin later added his vocals. Ditto for their recordings HOLD ME OH MY DARLING, TWO CAN HAVE A PARTY, GIVE IN, YOU JUST...
