Ollie understands how frustrating it might be when grownups might not always agree with your point of view. A learning curve indeed. I just wish i was there right now to lend you a comforting hug. :)
Summertime - On a wonderfully sunny morning here in the UK it just seemed the perfect song to play. Arguably one of of Diana’s finest vocal performances, not only for rca, but of her career.
I would say her receiving the Medal Of Freedom and the Lifetime Achievement Award pip this. Only a hater would make light of such accomplishments. For this you are heading in one direction only, and...
I don't know about the USA, but RHR&B received many excellent reviews here in the UK at the time of its release. Blues & Soul magazine called it timeless.
As long as no sound monitors are kicked off stage I’ll be happy.
I wonder how familiar Liz is with “I Will Survive”.? She certainly will be after this.
Spot on Roberta. Always a rather odious person from everything i have ever been told.
Agee on all points. Even today the song packs a punch, and would have been incredibly radio friendly for the time. An arty promo vid would have sealed the deal. Second single should have been “Hard...
I love articles such as this that force you to reappraise the album.
One of the main problems was always the misleading title lending the wrong expectation. Red hot rhythm and blues it certainly...
What an incredible privilege for Diana. I just hope she doesn’t let our beloved queen down.
Sorry to be a party pooper, but i find it rather boring as in dullsville. I much prefer the uptempo numbers on “Thank You” such as “If The World Just Danced” and “Tomorrow”.
The upside being, it’s...
I have always felt the album was judged a little to harshly. It’s certainly not ground breaking stuff, but their are some gems to be had. It was released during a lull in her career and at a time...
Perhaps an alternate version of “You’re Gone[[But Always In My Heart) should have been added to the “L/C” album. :D
Good points, though a Reflections album minus “Bah Bah Bah” is unthinkable. One of my faves on the album. :)
Agree, it’s always fun when a Diana song pops up somewhere, especially these days.
I think “That’s How You Start Over” a terrific song, with an infectious chorus. It’s feel good vibe would have...
As regards the original concept for the “Love Child” album, one can only assume Motown panicked, thinking such an album might not be readily accepted by their fans at large. Far better to include a...
I’m sure this song must be the prime candidate.
Tell me about it lol. A little goes a long way is how i would summarise the song.
Hopefully if the song takes off, it might ignite renewed interest in the “Thank You” album.
I wonder if she has any UK tv show appearances lined up this summer?.
I absolutely agree in that the timing was perfect. By 1970, Diana had come along way vocally. There was a newfound strength and maturity to her voice when compared to Supremes recordings.
I consider the “Reflections” album a reasonably good one that might have been so much better.
Three songs that definitely don’t belong on the album are “”What The World Needs Now”, “Up Up And Away”...
She seems to be getting more media interest from this one song collaboration then when she released the “Thank You” album.
You can kind of understand why Mary was reluctant to leave the label as Jean could be unpredictable.
Hopefully if it takes off she might add it to her concert setlist.
Let’s just hope it’s a really good song.
