I have always preferred the Supremes/Tops version as well. It certainly had potential to become the sizeable hit the Ross version never quite managed.
A very good review. Interesting that he describes her voice as “a battered instrument, bellowing through the big numbers and clutching hopelessly for the high notes”. I’m not certain Diana would...
Glad to hear the arena was full and that you had a good time. Enjoy your stay in the sunny UK.
From what I’ve seen on you tube she sounds in pretty good voice. Only major blip for me being “ Chain Reaction” sounds totally out of key and at odds with her backing singers. Perhaps she was wise to...
The big difference being Stevie writes and produces his own albums and acts as producer for other artists.
Although LSTB made the music world sit up, wrongly or rightly it never had the same impact...
This is wonderful as someone [[clearly a fan) has put a lot of effort into this. I wonder which train station it was?.
Personally i have no problem at all with celebrity worship. In my own way, i myself have worshiped Diana since I was a small child. It’s when your labelled toad or hater for having a differing...
I think certain songs from Blue might also have been added. It would have made for a stylish, sophisticated blend of pop/r&b/jazz. Her very own “Songs In The Key Of Life”.
The film was a massive success in the UK, receiving a hugely enthusiastic response from UK audiences whenever she has performed any of its songs.
From a personal perspective, i would far sooner...
For the record, i have lost count of the times where myself or another fan is accused of being a toad, hater or troll for simply expressing honest personal opinion. It’s always the same two posters...
I always find the idolatry nature of such posts a ‘tad spooky. What ever floats your boat i guess. Living goddess.........Hmmm
Glastonbury would certainly be the wrong gig for a LSTB segment. As this is likely to be her last tour of Europe, it would seem appropriate to include something from one of the huge highlights of her...
It’s fabulous she continues to receive such sparking reviews. Long may it continue, with the big one coming up this Sunday. ;)
Possibly SL, but not all jazz songs are sad. “Love Is Here To Stay”, What A Little Moonlight Can Do”, “Them Their Eyes” are all upbeat, happy sounding songs. LSTB is probably her finest career...
Touch Me In The Morning would have made for a stylish double album. They could have used the songs recorded for the shelved To The Baby project which would have been perfect.
Not really. As of now, the vast majority of peeps who attend her concerts are not what i would call staunch Diana Ross fans. They want to hear something familiar they can sing along with as in the...
Thanks for the info Flo, I wonder if the documentary Diana at the BBC will be screened at some point as well?.
I have always loved this song copley. So many gems to be found on the “Thank You” set, with Diana sounding great here. I would so love to hear her performing additional songs from the new album as...
It’s just that i have so many happy memories of her belting this song out with gusto, that to hear it now just doesn’t compare. Is she singing anything at all from Lady Sings The Blues?.
Overall I think she is doing very well. I just find this particular performance of “When You Tell Me” rather flat and uninspiring. Perhaps it’s the lower key she now sings it in.
I would love to have heard “We Should Be Closer Together” live. One of my all time favourite Supremes songs.
Allowing for the fact she’s 78, “When You Tell Me” sounds flat and rather off key. The rest is ok if a little perfunctory. It’s such a shame, as she once performed it so beautifully. Still good for...
She only has one day off after her London dates then straight to Glastonbury. It does seem rather a lot. It’s worth noting the Glastonbury audience will not be made up entirely of fans, so she needs...
Many thanks for posting Roberta. As far as i’m aware Mary had always been a strong advocate for the gay community. A fact that clearly irks certain posters.
