yeah that might be all that A&S prepared for these sessions. but given the strength of these songs, by and large, they should have said "hey why don't you move forward and pull together a full lp" ...

i think at this point, most people attending are well aware that 1) Diana is in her 70s despite her glamorous and youthful appearance and 2) most are attending for the fun of going down memory lane...
i would see about potentially extending a few songs a bit. with the luxury of a double album, you could pad some of the tracks just a bit
touch me in the morning
all of my life
we need you...
that's sort of my point. yes she could state in her contract a specific billing. but she didn't have the power to do much when it was misstated. like the story of Diana marching out to her Vegas...
Mary is a good singer. excellent backing singer with a great ear for harmony. but she isn't an especially versatile singer. people have suggested an "anita baker" album might have worked. but...
The TMITM album is just sensational and a wonderful package. Fortunately it sold and charted very well. I do agree w the ideas on here of it potentially working as a double album set. Even though...
Oh yes!! That’s an excellent song. Easily could have charted
I know of 6 tracks AS did. River, stoned soul, reach out and touch, ain’t nothing like the real thing, one more bridge to cross and...
Lolol yeah Aunt Eulalie would have said that. But Uncle Byrd would have said something worse!!
Then mom makes you play it on that combination HiFi in the living room after dinner while everyone...
My guess is if a label thought they could legitimately make money from signing Mary she would have. But friends or not, they weren’t just going to sign her as a charity effort. She definitely tried...
Technically Mary did have control because it should have been specified in her performance contract. Either with a promotional group or w the performance venue itself. If there are posters or...
I think Dynamite was released because neither group had a current release for the 71 holiday period. It was at least something that people could buy and put under the Christmas tree
You know it...
Someone once stated that YGHLIYH was intended as a Sups song. Not a duet. No idea if that’s true or not
I like the second half of the duets Reach Out and Touch. When it shifts to 4/4. I’m
Not as huge fan of the two tempos. I think they should have just done the whole song in this new way
A&S did...
True on These Things. But I don’t hear Mountain as a Surpremes song. Yes I know people assume it just like they assume it’s Diana singing Ladder. Story is that Berry had These Things added because...
Haha ran. I found another topic to nag you on! While there are a few SW songs I like, yes for the most part I don’t follow his music or career. It has just never clicked w me
But I will...
while i don't think YGHLIYH was a lyric masterpiece, i don't think that was the problem. there were tons of feel-good tunes out there at the time. many charting very well. Could the lyric have...
your last point is very important actually
Stevie and Marvin get all of this credit for making such amazing artistic statements with SITKOF, WGO, Let's get it on and others. The artistic...
i deleted my original post. think this sums it up better
I don't think any of the women or lineups are "goddesses." none are the best singers to ever put something on vinyl. none are the best...
when i finally got the bootleg of Mary's NYNY debut, i wasn't surprised but certainly disappointed. it was essentially the same show MSS had been doing. same arrangements, same songs. what was a...
see i think Diana broke away from the Supremes sound quite quickly. DR 70 IMO is radically different from anything she had recorded with the Sups. Frankly i always thought the Bones Howes tracks...
"Ross at 78" lol
almost like how we refer to her album "Ross 78"
hoping and praying we also get a Ross 83 :)
agree with your comments. my point wasn't saying she was unqualified vocally to sing lead or co-lead or whatever. but during the 9 years with diana, there was just such a lack of tunes with mary on...
let's just say it - the track for YGHLIYH sucked. it was very hokey and they should have done a "follow the bouncing ball and sing along!" video for it.
there are 10,000 other approaches they...
i think there were a variety of issues here
the Supremes had [[initially at least) survived the loss of Diana Ross. Ladder was a huge hit and the album Right On was a solid seller, besting most...
couldn't have said it better
both the Temps and the Sups had this odd "plebe" period where new members were on lengthy probationary periods. that was idiotic although the temps seemed to deal...
