Never knew the Young Rascals covered it till I saw on YouTube. It DEFINITELY has gospel flair.

As a kid, I remember several of these songs being sung in church in the 60s by youth choirs etc. These songs were also sung by the Civil Rights workers/activists around the country. We do not hear these songs anymore. Not even "Michael Row Your Boat Ashore".
I always found it to be inspirational....first heard it as the flip of I'm Gonna Make You Love Me 45.....Paul Williams just nails it down and kills it....Paul was an excellent singer. Even with DR who had a much lighter sound as a duet partner....
