I'm surprised that they are even making a movie about Mahalia's life. Not sure how Fantasia will do in this one, but she was excellent in THE COLOR PURPLE.

Melinda Doolittle would have been a better choice to play Mahalia.

Reportedly, Fantasia agreed to gain weight to play Mahalia Jackson. It will have to be some performance since Mahalia was an original. I was told Mahalia could out cuss the saltiest sailor when she had to. Fantasia won't have a prolem with that part.
