Where do you find this cool stuff?? Mary sounds good!
If my memory serves me correct that was recorded in Nashville as part of some stuff she did for Gusto Records.
It was originally released on album entitled CHRISTMAS SOUL SPECIAL. Other artists included Sam Moore, Shirley Alston, Martha Reeves, and Wilson Pickett. Mary also performed a rendition of SILENT NIGHT.
I thought she sounded great on this too.
I remember when this came out. I was living in Philly at the time and it was hot! LOL!!!
I've seen that LP/CD many times over the years, and not being a fan of holiday music ignored it....
This is a great version of JBR....holiday songs tend to constantly be recycled and become warhorses no matter who sings them...Mary Wells phrasing and a great instrumental track make this a "thumbs up!!!" for me...the very few I ALWAYS enjoy: Supremes "Born of Mary" Heart [[Ann & Nancy Wilson) Blue Christmas and Connie Francis' Ave Maria
Leave this song to the original artist. Mary’s version is terrible.
This is great. Thanks Marv. Terrific phrasing and performance by Mary.
