I guess everybody knows that "Hypnotized" as performed by Linda Jones sets the gold standard. This little known version by First Class deserves a listening.

Hypnotized is a classic because of the vocal interplay between Linda Jones and the Persuaders. The Perusaders sound super smooth, as compared to Linda's very emotional singing. The orchestration supports Linda just right. When this difference in singing is done carefully it can be great, just like in Esther Phillip's "Release Me" where her singing is deep deep soul/blues and the Anita Kerr Singers in the background are at the suburban country club; in the hands of a great producer or arranger this difference can be stunning.
