Very jumpy.
I think it was incredible how good they were from the very start. You can recognize their perfect harmonies and Levi's distinctive lead voice. Just amazing!
This track was released on the CD "Street Corner Essentials"
This song was originally a jump blues written and recorded by B.B. King in 1953. B.B.'s version featured a prominent horn section. The Four Tops' version has a very ingenious arrangement which replaces the horns with vocal harmonies. I'm surprised Chess records didn't release the Tops version at the time.
I never knew they recorded this kind of material even in their early days on Chess. I guess they really could sing anything. I absolutely love the "Breakin' Through" Lost and Found album. Their take on standards was just awesome and I appreciate the Great American Songbook more and more as I get older, I guess.
Thanks Marv, most interesting.
