Another sad state of affairs when a name becomes bigger than the individuals.
Guess Lionel Richie was the least of their problems. Ouch! And I like Lionel so don't get any second thoughts lol
Lionel Richie was smart to jump ship in 1981 when he saw the future. They still scored with the last hit with him "Oh No", but one measly hit the band had after he left doesn't make any difference. R&B bands like them were on the way out. The Bar-Kays, Earth, Wind & Fire, and Con Funk Shun, and others stopped having hits in the 80s, and Cameo was wise to pair down to a lean and mean trio.
Nighshift came 3 or 4 years after Oh No and that was a real big hit for the Commodores.Quote:
