The national debt???hmmm i think i owe some folks.
LOL! I'm not that, but yes, of course, I did get it...and quickly moved past it, with a smile.
Little Lord Fontleroy is clever in written form as a font name, as was Jerry's post..it's just a tad contrived, as it doesn't rhyme with Little Lord Fauntleroy in British English. It may well do in America....:)
My parents always pronounced it as Font-LE-roy, but most people now seem to say Font-EL-roy.
I've always believed it to be pronounced as 'Foornt-le-roy' in British English [[probably as Foorntle-roy in American English)... although FHB was indeed in the US when she wrote it....but, coming from Manchester, I wonder how SHE would have pronounced it...
If she wrote it now, it would be "Hey! LEEroy!!"
Hmmm... I always thought it would be pronounced FAWNT-la-roy. But admittedly, I didn't pay attention to anything older than myself in literature class.
Oh it's that time again...to be or maybe not who can tell whether it be wiser to not be or not the wiser, only the mundane will decipher this quizzical malady of the who's who of what won't matter in ten days...thank you!!
That was beautiful... I was so moved that I called an old friend to apologize for something that broke us up more than 30 years ago.
He said that he was glad for the phone call because now that he has my location, he's coming over to kick my butt. And that's exactly why I hate literature.
Hence the phrase "to throw the book at someone".....
Friday is a great night to catch a movie. If you catch a book, I hope it is the latest edition of 'The Physician's Guide to Treating Concussions and Open Head Wounds'.
I will head straight out for it, look at the price, and catch my breath.
Well, that's something to think about. It's sort of for the brainy folks out there, though.
If that's true, there will be many who feel they should definitely acquire a copy.
Almost as many as there are seeking to purchase this wonderful elixur...
Most people need something to believe in - and some will believe in anything...
Richard Dawkins is a notable exception.
He certainly seems to be at odds with EO Wilson, although I'm somewhat unclear on their respective beliefs.
Dawkins let Wilson know that he lost respect for him when Wilson shortened his name from EIEIO Wilson. Wilson, not wanting people to know of his close association with Ol' McDonald had words with Dawkins and they never saw eye-to-eye again.
Oh, so it was down to nursery rhymes, and short-sightedness.
As are most disputes between otherwise reasonable people...
And quite often marriages, too.
Now that's just getting deeper and deeper... I need to put it into a self-help book.
Wouldn't self-help books be of more use to unmarried people?
Maybe more to recently unmarried people...? They would be great parting gifts from their exes.

It seems sad being unable to help yourself, just by helping yourself.....

I can't help myself. But I'm a fan of the Four Tops.
Aren't we all.....?
We all have somebody who thinks we suck. Somebody, somewhere, somehow once had the nerve to suggest that there was something about the Tops that they hated. I imagine that the person who heard it either smacked him or drove him home to sleep off his very drunken state.
I would have smacked him. I too am a fan of the Four Tops.
Well then somebody[shake me wake me]when this post is over.
[[We'll just have to leave you to sleep it off across the back seat of the bus, then - as this whole thread has some mileage in it yet....)
On the topic of people who think we suck....
Every negative remark I ever heard came from an unhappy person, who just wanted their feelings to be known.
And since misery loves company, God forbid others have fun while that person sits in his own funk alone. Don't rain on my parade when all you needed was an umbrella to enjoy your own.
It's a tricky one. We should be able to share good and bad, but others we might approach do have their own 'bad' and don't want to have any more dumped on them, if they can avoid it. That, of course, doesn't help anyone else from feeling bad, and probably also lonely and uncertain, especially if they have no-one to talk to about it....
