I just went to his Facebook page. It's true. This one blindsided me. I was just with him on a music panel last fall. Clay my long time friend, you will be missed. Thanks for all the good memories.
Very sad news indeed. RIP Clay.
This is a shocker. They are planning the big Motown celebrations this month in Detroit. I am very sorry to hear this news. Rest in peace Clay and thanks man.

Sorry to hear this.
There is a great and eloquent tribute to Clay on Soul Tracks by Chris Rizik.

It seems he was a very generous hearted man. "Clay McMurray continued to be a force in Detroit music for years after national fame faded, and he helped groom multiple generations of artists, with the years of wisdom and experience he obtained. He will be missed."
I know Ralph will miss him greatly.
I will miss his positive demeanor, Mike. He always seemed to be in a good mood.We had many laughs together as well as fortunate studio experiences between Tera Shirma and Motown. Clay was definitely one of a kind.
Years ago, when Clay and I were young men, he had a theory about death. He would tell me "When the angels pull your hole card, it's over....." Maybe Clay's card got pulled.
Poker term...what could be a winning card...until it gets pulled

Thank you Boogie.
This was such a shock to me and very sad news. When we came over for the Soulful Detroit get-together in 2003, he was a gentleman! On the forum, in the 'Cass Cafe' and via email. His co writes and productions are current! He will be sadly missed. I had a wonderful experience with him and Cal Street in Studio A [[Dearborn Heights) in 2006 when just us three were there, Clay and myself in the control room and Ms Street at the mic in the studio laying down lead vocals for 'People Make The World Go Round' [[unreleased). I won't go in to detail, but something magic happened and what went down in the can will prove it, if ever released. Very very sad news.
