New Motown Subsidary Label Designs

What year were the new Tamla, Gordy and Soul labels introduce and what were the first releases on each label?
I have just watched the film 'Dirty Dancing' and noticed the 'new' Gordy label design towards the end of the film. The film is set in 1963 and I'm sure the new label wasn't introduced until the late 60s.

Move from Detroit to LA

I found a fascinating article that provides a brief summary of Motown’s move from Detroit to California. Interestingly, as late as 1974 Studio B was still active. The move was hardly abrupt as many of us were “led to believe” in various articles stating that Motown suddenly abandon Detroit in 1972.

Interestingly, Motown opened its first LA office in 1963. In 1967, Berry announced the name change of the Supremes to the DRATS in LA and subsequently bought a house for his family in 1968. Didn’t Diana and Mary also move around 1967/8 due to the enormous television work they were doing? Not sure if anyone else from the Motown roster made the move? Maybe Smokey too?

Any additional comments from insiders or those in the know?

Thanks in advance!

Berry Gordy, Lorne Michaels, Joni Mitchell to Receive Kennedy Center Honors

From Rolling Stone.com
The Kennedy Center has announced a new class of inductees. Singer-songwriter Joni Mitchell, Motown Records founder Berry Gordy, Saturday Night Live creator Lorne Michaels, entertainer Bette Midler, and bass baritone Justino Díaz will be honored at this year’s ceremony.

The 2021 Kennedy Center Honors will return to its usual time and place at the Kennedy Center Opera House on December 5th. Due to Covid-19, the 2020 ceremony was pushed to May and spread out over several days with a mix of indoor, outdoor, and pre-taped events.

“After the challenges and heartbreak of the last many months, and as we celebrate 50 years of the Kennedy Center, I dare add that we are prepared to throw ‘the party to end all parties’ in D.C. on Dec. 5th, feting these extraordinary people and welcoming audiences back to our campus,” said Kennedy Center president Deborah Rutter.

Last year’s honorees included Joan Baez, Garth Brooks, Dick Van Dyke, Debbie Allen, and Midori.
