Motorcity forum

Should there be a separate forum for Motorcity recordings discussion? It seems to have taken over the main Motown forum in recent times, and seems to be lots and lots of posts by the same few people. Just thinking…..

Four Tops Don't Let Him Take Your Love From Me: What Happened?

So this was not one of their bigger hits which I always thought was odd. When I first heard it on an album I found at a resale shop, I thought it was a really good record. I was maybe 12 or 13 and wasn't familiar with the group's history yet. I just thought it was a nice record. But I also noticed that compared to the stuff before all the hits from the 'Reach Out' album, there was something kinda "sad" about this song. I had the impression that because I had never heard it on oldies radio, this must have been from some kind of down time as far as making hits. It's amazing sometimes that even when we're young we can pick up on stuff, because later I found out that this didn't do much chart wise. I'd like to hear how others heard this song and your impressions of it.

Motorcity 2023 - Vol. 1

I have been very pleased to see recent threads finally giving Ian Levine some credit for his incredible Motorcity project for which 770 songs were recorded between 1987 and 1992 [[plus a further 80 between Pat Lewis and Brenda Holloway around 1996/97). It is no secret that the project has been heavily criticized for its use of Fairlight synthesizers, a sound that has not aged particularly well, and Ian Levine will be the first to admit that himself, and he already started reworking the tracks in the late 90s to give them a more authentic sound.

Come 2023 and here is the first digital album of 25 new mixes, released today, Friday March 3, 2023. A second volume has already been completed, and isn't it just a joy to hear those voices!

What's the verdict?

By Patrick Hipes

EXCLUSIVE: Spinning Gold, the long-in-the-works biopic about 1970s Casablanca Records chief Neil Bogart, is heating up again in time for the Cannes Virtual Market. The pic, written and directed by Bogart’s son Timothy Scott Bogart, has added Wiz Khalifa to play Parliament leader George Clinton, Tayla Parx to play Donna Summer, Ledisi to play Gladys Knight and Lyndsy Fonseca to play music manager Joyce Biawitz.

Production is now underway in New Jersey, and Capstone will introduce the film to Cannes market buyers next week.

Jeremy Jordan plays Neil Bogart in the the pic that charts the rise of his Buddah and Casablanca labels in the 1960s and ’70s with a roster that included Donna Summer, KISS, Parliament, Village People, The Isley Brothers, Gladys Knight and Bill Withers among others.

Motorcity "DIVAS" And Other Fun Releases! - Philles/Motown Gary

The fun thing about Motorcity Various-Artists collections is that they were often-times based on a theme. One such example is the 2-CD "DIVAS" collection and the Tribute to H-D-H collection, among others. Enjoy!
