Disc O Tech - Motown Magic Disco Machine
Finding myself at a loose end at the weekend I turned my attention to some of the nore 'obscure' Motown LP's in my collection that I'd been slow to transfer to digital a few of which fall into the 'Disco' genre in particular the Disc O Tech series of LP's.
I have to be honest and admit that I'd never really paid much attention to the Motown Magic Disco series of the 70's but decided to forge ahead and transfer them. In yet another cross ocean mix up it appears that Volume 1 of the set made it to the UK in it's original US form complete with green cover while Volume 2 in the US LOOKS entirely different to it's UK counterpart. Both feature the same tracks while the covers of Volume 2 are vastly different. The UK opts for a yellow background with a similiar photo whilst the US version changes to a new black drawn artwork cover featuring what looks like a 12 inch record, both countries have dropped the Disc O Tech branding.
In between the two releass UK Motown decided to release a 'Big Hits' kind of LP using the title Disc O Tech - a 13 track collection of tracks from the likes of Yvonne Fair, Temptations, GC Cameron and the Supremes - that LP reverts back to the design of the Motown Magic Disco Machine Volume 1 but uses a pink background. If that were not confusing enough UK Motown liking the theme decides to issue a second volume Motown Disc O Tech Volume 2 with the same variety of tracks from almost the same line up as volume 1 but the cover is wildly different and by the looks of it a similiar volume 3 again with a change of design.
To complicate matters even more when the LP's appear not just across the pond but all over the world the covers and volumes switch around and track lists change dramatically - I think this would cause a serious headache for completists. I cannot seem to find an image for the US #2 .

Otis Redding Biopic on the way
Otis & Zelma will see the Star Wars and Attack the Block actor play the tragic star with the Till breakout Danielle Deadwyler playing his wife, Zelma.
The drama will follow the success of Redding, whose career included hits such as [[Sittin’ On) The Dock of the Bay and These Arms of Mine before his death in a 1967 plane crash at the age of 26.
According to Variety, the official description claims the film “celebrates the 10 short years Otis and Zelma had together, and their eternal love story after his passing”. The film comes with the full support of the estate.
After the singer’s death, his widow opened her own booking business, a record store and a nightclub and never remarried. “Never will,” she said to the New York Times in 2022. “I love being Mrs Otis Redding. I’m the only one.”
This month will also see the singer receive a posthumous star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
Otis & Zelma will be directed by Channing Godfrey Peoples, whose breakout drama Miss Juneteenth premiered to acclaim at the Sundance film festival in 2020............
