An "I like another rendition better" thread

There are some cuts that we have heard so much of songs and then there are other versions/interpretations of those same songs, done by other performers perhaps, or by the same act as the one we heard a lot - but in another arrangement, tempo, possibly with new performers within the act adding something to the song that wasn't there before...etc...

I'd like to try this... What are some other but less played renditions of well known songs that you like better?

So... I'll start (and leave for the wings to see what you guys perhaps might make of this topic :) ). I like this one better than Joe Cocker's so frequently played recording.

Motown's Tamla LPs from October 1962 to 1979

This is a wealth of good information.

I didn't delve far enough into the situation.

HDH & their own label at Motown

Reading Adam White's always interesting latest blog, he touches on the often reported cause of HDH's split from Motown, namely the ambition of HDH to own their own label within Motown.

This was presumably HDH making the case that their songs were the main driving force at Motown, and they wanted more in the way of a share of the spoils. Of course, Berry Gordy refused. This appears to be the initial cause of the fall out.
But...how would this have worked? Presumably HDH knew that the major groups, by now firmly identified with "The Motown Sound", could never have been moved from Tamla/Motown .
Did they envisage bringing new groups into the company?
any thoughts on this?
