While looking for something else, I found a box with some old flyers etc from '72/'73 and thought I'd share them with you nice people. Hope they bring back some good memories for you! First, some WJLB Soul Charts -
A picnic? August 26th - that's tomorrow!
How about going to a nightclub afterwards?
And finally, a couple of things from Chi-town -
The early days of advertising...

BJL Many thanks for sharing these images. They look absolutely fantastic. Check out Jay Butler today at WQBH http://www.wqbh1400.com/person alities I went in search of the Hi Chaparall building when I was in Chicago last month but it was a vacant lot (I think!). |

Some very nice items there, BLJ. It's interesting to see that ad for the Anything & Everything 45. Did you know anyone in this group. I think it's Detroit - not Chicago. |

David - thanks for the Jay Butler link. Do you know if "The Queen" is the same person as "Martha Jean, the queen", also on WJLB? She's mentioned on one of the flyers. Graham - I guess I assumed The Bitter And The Sweet were from Chicago, but not based on any personal knowledge - I know nothing about the group. Do you have the 45? What are the writing and publishing credits? That might give a clue. |

David you're right the once dominant club The High Chappraral is indeed a vacant lot adjacent to the entry/access ramp of the Chicago Skyway on Stony Island........Lord knows I spent many a year in that place...at the time (seventies) it was one of the largest night clubs in the city...and as the Tempts would say....."you could meet anybody there" !!!!!! BJL I don't own the 45, but have a scan of the label which I'll try to get it up here; anyway, the details are: Producer and Writer: Floyd Johnson Arranger: Robert White The label is actually called "The Anything, Everything Records" and it has a "Detroit" address printed on the bottom of the label. It's dated 1973. |

The Palmer House Cocktail Lounge??? That's a new one on me and I thought I was familiar with nearly all of the former clubs in Detroit. I never heard of this place, does anyone out there know anything about it? |

Thanks Kdubya. The building still standing close by had me wondering but there was no street number on it. BJL MJTQ owned WQBH (Queen's Broadcasting) before she passed 3-4 years ago. Daughter Sandra and Jay Butler will see this thread, I think. |

I think that the Palmer House catered more for blues audiences. Joe von Battle reportedly recorded Washboard Willie and Calvin Frazier there c1956, issuing several tracks on JVB. Any longtime Detroiters remember it? |
