was anybody on the forum ever in that building in the late sixties?
or in 'special recordings' next door?

My freind was there and has some outstanding photos of the Snake Pit. If by popular demand, I will ask him to join the forum and perhaps post some photo history. He does regularly visit this site.

Tell us more about this building. Where is/was it located on E. Grand Blvd? Who was the founder of D-Town? Who produced and who were some of the recording artist out of D-Town? This sounds like a bit of music history from Detroit that has been buried.

Sy - Mike Hanks formed D-Town around 1963. Before (and after) that he had other record labels and worked out of a house-cum-studio known as The Pig Pen, located at Lawton and McGraw.
The building at 3040 (?) East Grand was the official office and there's a photo of it somewhere on this Web site.
Mike's two main musical partners were Cody Black and the late Rudy Robinson.
