Unbelievable...
Back in the day BEFORE your Hot Wax things a few mutual friends used to rave about you all the time.
They were Lois Sneed and Dorothy Norwood.
I was doing some secular things with Lois at the time.
Welcome to our SD family.

Hi Laura
Welcome to SoulfulDetroit!
It is a pleasure to see you here.
Released in March 1966, "To win your heart" is a fabulous record. It has given thousands of people many hours of pleasure on the Northern Soul scene.
I wonder what happened to the co-writer Linda Bunten? Do you remember her?
Why did you only have one recording for Ed and JoAnne...that is another mystery?
Thanks for taking time to come on to the forum and PLEASE stay in touch.
David
ps Ritchie..what a great pic.
![]() ![]() |
Wot THE LAURA LEE! I need to sit down.
In my book, this is royalty.
WELCOME Laura. Stay as long as you want, we are all in awe here!
![]() ![]() |
Laura,
I can't begin to tell you the wonderful memories of my early teens that your records bring up in me. I just couldn't believe my ears when I heard the way you did "Guess Who I Saw Today" and "Since I Fell For You." They are both among the greatest of the great.
With love and gratitude, Brian, NYC
![]() ![]() |
Laura I'm a fan of your version of "Guess Who I Saw Today" too. I still play it from time to time.
![]() ![]() |
Brian:
Welcome back to the Forum. We miss you.
Ritchie:
Once again, you come through with the goods. Damn, Laura - you are gorgeous!!!

Guys - I'm not claiming any credit for the pic - I simply posted it at the request of the sender, but I can tell you that it was taken today :o)
![]() ![]() |
Hi Laura;
Love what you do and you really do it Baby. Its an honor to see you here, I always play Guess Who I Saw Today & Since I Fell For You all the time, You are among my most favorite female vocalists!!! Keep that soulful music coming!!!
Thanks for all the enjoyment, Soul Sister
![]() ![]() |
What ever you do Ritchie - do not 'Return to Sender'!
Welcome Laura Lee - we are honoured. I look forward to seeing you perform over here.
![]() ![]() |
Laura Lee !!! As J Lester mentioned ... Royalty indeed. Thanks for all the great music. Some of my personal favorites are from the late-Invictus period - such as "If You Can't Beat My Rockin" & "I Need It Just as Bad as You" among them. Those cuts are funkin' HARD!! But one of my all-time favorites is the heavy funk-classic "Crumbs Of the Table". Devastating combo of music & vocal. THANK-YOU
Hey, I don't know if you're takin' questions Laura, but I'm curious how much touring you did in your HDH/Invictus days.
Peace & Respect, Rich
![]() ![]() |
Greg C
You just picked my all time favourite too. That voice, my word THAT VOICE - it could skim the cream off your coffee and you wouldn't even know it! Wow...Laura Lee..I still can't believe this.
Where is this Golden World review - I wanna get a ticket NOW.
![]() ![]() |
Welcome Laura! It's indeed an honor to have you here on the SD forum. I've always been a big fan and some of my favorite recordings by you were "(If You Want To Try Love Again) Remember Me"; "Rip Off"; and "Since I Fell For You."
![]() ![]() |
Ms Lee, you are one of the greatest ever. The first record I bought of yours was "Dirty Man".I have all your Hot Wax & Invictus 45's and the 2 Hot Wax LPS and luckily I recently got the double CD. I always wanted to see you "live" so hopefully you will come to Florida soon.We LOVE YOU here on Soulfuldetroit!!
![]() ![]() |
Hi Laura, just as my brother states above, we
LOVED "Dirty Man" on the Chess label. Great
that you are back and ready to perform. Hope
you DO come to Florida and perhaps you should
make a PBS TV special--they are ALWAYS looking
for someone to re-present to audiences who
love good R&B/Soul of the '60s & '70s.
You should contact (or have your agent contact)
T.J. Lubinsky at WQED Multimedia in Pittsburg.
I'm sure they'd love to here from you!
![]() ![]() |
hi laura, as stated before, you are held in the highest regard here in the uk, to see you perform live would be a treat indeed, i had hoped to see you back in the eighties with the ric tic revue that came over with al kent, edwin starr, pat lewis etc but you could not make it for some reason, a golden world review would be terrific. nice to know you are out there ready to perform, any dates?
regards rob hurcomb. uk.
![]() ![]() |
Laura, I am at a loss for words. Your vocals on "Since I Fell For You" has always been a favorite of mine. Thank you so much for honoring us on SD with your music. We love you!

THANK YOU MR. RITCHIE FOR POSTING THAT PHOTO.
THANKS EVERYONE SO VERY MUCH FOR THE WARM WELCOME. I AM NOT GOOD ON THE COMPUTER, SO PLEASE BE PATIENT WITH ME.
IN RESPONSE TO QUESTIONS, I DON'T KNOW WHO WROTE "TO WIN YOUR HEART"/"SO WILL I", I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW THAT MYSELF.
DURING THE YEARS 1971-1973 I TRAVELED TOO MUCH! (SMILE)
I WOULD LIKE TO HEAR FROM T.J. LUBINSKI.
TO ALL MY FANS, UK, USA, AND ELSEWHERE.
I LOVE YOU TOO! I HAVE BEEN AWAY TOO LONG.
![]() ![]() |
Hi Laura!
A funny coincidence - just day before yesterday I was watching a video compilation of early 60s gospel performances, and saw you (as Laura Rundless)perform as a member of the Meditation Singers (together with Ernestine and others) Sanctify Lord, Building Up A Boundary and He's Done Something For Me.
Best regards
Heikki
![]() ![]() |
Phewwwwwwww This is something...!
I won't be too long though, so I'd like to say that I love your songs so much I can't even name a favourite... there are so many I love...
Here in France I have many friends who just like all the people here are great fans of your music...
If you come over to the UK next year, I hope that the date will be posted in advance so I can make arrangments to cross the channel and see you perform... By the way I have several of your promo pics from back in the days on which you look just fabulous!

Hi Laura
Thanks for coming back to us.
"To win your heart" was written by Linda Bunten and JoAnne Bratton.
"So will I" was written by Bruce Scott and Andre Williams.

Hey Everyone, you can email T.J. Lubinsky of the
PBS specials requesting Laura Lee's appearance
at: tjlubins@wqed.org
![]() ![]() |
Here's a bit of trivia: In about 1978/79 while
on the Fantasy label, Laura Lee recorded a great
song produced by Don Davis and written by a
Motown legend. Anyone know who it was? The
song was called "Sat-Is-Fac-Tion".
![]() ![]() |
Randy:
Smokey Robinson?
Kevin Goins - KevGo
![]() ![]() |
No!!!! It was MARY WELLS!!!!!!!
Not the song that Smokey did of the same
title. This song was actually written
by Mary & Cecil Womack.

randy, sat-is-fac-tion, written by d. davis, m wells and c womack. mary wells strikes again!! the other side (mine is a 12" single)is a great version of "your song" also done by the dells and the four tops.
rob hurcomb uk
![]() ![]() |
That's right!! And I also liked "Your Song",
which was written by Cecil Womack. I was
actually visiting him in LA when he was
working on it. Both sides are heavily disco
influenced.

HELLO EVERYONE!
RANDY RUSSI - THANK YOU FOR RECOMMENDING ME TO TJ LUBINSKI. I WOULD LOVE TO PERFORM ON A PBS SPECIAL.

Hi Laura
Good to see that you have arrived on one of the most friendly places on the Net.
I would publicly like to thank you for the great time we had in Memphis - Jan, Nick, Ray, John x2 and Mo send their love from the UK and we miss you.
Just to let everyone know that Laura will be featured in a in-depth interview in the UK magazine In The Basement in the July edition. If people want to order a copy please e-mail itb@basement-group.co.uk. Laura also features in the UK Northern Soul magazine Togetherness in my regular column which next month is a photo diary of my recent trip to Memphis. You can get copies from goldsoul@firstnet.co.uk My friend Ray Ellis will also be featuring Laura in the UK magazine Juke Blues available from juke@jukeblues.com
I was fortunate along with a few other UK soul fans to hear Laura sing in Al Green's church in April and she was dynamite!!! I can't wait to hear he perform again.
Take care Laura and its so good to have you back.
Colin Dilnot
![]() ![]() |
I will read that issue with great interest... hey I am a subscriber after all... one of the greatest if not the greatest soul music publication...!
Wonder B
![]() ![]() |
You're very welcome, Laura Lee, and I hope you
do get the chance to perform on a PBS Special
very soon as well as come to Florida to perform.
We'd love to see you!!!!

Thanks to Colin Dilnot for this fantastic image of Laura Lee.

![]() ![]() |
David M,
Going back to your post on June 19 - The Debonaires' Golden World 45 "How's Your New Love Treating You" also has J Bratton and L Bunten credited as the songwriters. But one of the singers told me it was actually written by Staunton and Walker. Maybe they had a hand in penning Laura's song too?
Graham
![]() ![]() |
Another great pic from Graham. I hope Laura gets to see this.
![]() ![]() |
I don't know why the scan is off Graham but it gives it a character of it's own.
The first Laura Lee 45 I ever heard, way back in '71.
![]() ![]() |
I've split this iamge into 2 to allow better viewing of the text. I think this pic is superb. Another from the Graham Fich collection. I would also like to say for the first time thta the Michigan Chronicle did a great job in their day. The material from that newspaper is oustanding.
![]() ![]() |
Thanks David,
I think Eddie Phelps was Laura's manager at the time.
Graham
![]() ![]() |
Laura Lee was an attractive woman but she looks better with age...oh to be that beautiful..
Stephanie
![]() ![]() |
Hello Soulful Detroiters....Thank you so much for your compliments.
I wonder if anyone can assist me in finding the photo which is on the back side of the album "I Can't Make It Alone." There is a small copy of it on the current Invictus cd. On the back of the mentioned album, the photo is much larger. I would like a copy of that photo.
Thank you, Love Lady Laura Lee
![]() ![]() |
hi laura i was talking to david nathen about 3 months ago, and i asked ,what were you doing these days ,he said he saw you in new york ,and you were doing gospel and have quit the soul scene
but iam glad to hear your coming over on a tour,i bought the gospel album you did with al greene
but some bugger nicked it ,on its way to me in the post, i hope he/she listened to it and it did them some good. never mind iam trying to track another copy, ps you look younger then ever
whats your secret?
![]() ![]() |
Ms Laura Lee
I provided my personal original albums and newspaper articles for those UK CD releases. The record company simply scanned the pictures and produced the artwork from them. Anyone with a scanner and the original album should be able to let you have what you want. Sadly I do not have a scanner.
![]() ![]() |
Laura Lee!
If this is the picture you want I can email it to you in higher resolution. Please mail to lgn@chello.se and let me know where to send it.
PS. Ive been a fan of yours since the Ric-Tic days
All the best
Lars
![]() ![]() |
Thank you Lars. Yes, that is the photo I wanted. You can email me at mslauralee@Lycos.com.
Are you in the states or the UK? I've checked my guestbook, and it appears that I have more fans in the UK than the US. I love all my fans, and thank you for being one of them.
LOVE, LADY LAURA LEE
![]() ![]() |
Laura,
I'll be glad to send it. It's in your mail in a few minutes. By the way, I am in Stockholm, Sweden.
I have a question for you. What song do you like most of all your recordings?
Lars
![]() ![]() |
Ms Lee, You have more fans in the US then you realize...especially down South. I have a big circle of friends in Florida & we all LOVE LAURA LEE.Thank Goodness for all our Soulful brothers & sisters in Europe because they love good music also.Commercial Radio is the enemy of decent music.

Considering all the discussions there have been recently regarding the state of the current music scene, I'm delighted to be able to help promote someone who is genuinely blessed with talent. Like me, I'm sure everyone here wishes her nothing but success on her return to the spotlight.
