Vickie, I don't know if this was answered before but last night I came across The Sherrys CD (German Import) that I've had for several years and read the booklet.Joe Cook who was the manager of the Sherrys(and Father of 2 members) says that in 1961 "The girls formed a group that included for a time, Tammi Montgomery, later a star singer on Motown as Tammi Terrell. The girls kicked Tammi out of the group because they didn't get along".This CD came out in 1996 .It says this Joe Cook now lives in Boston BUT he would be about 80 something years old if still alive.

I checked the booklet notes for a Joe Cook
compilation I have and thought this might be helpful. There's an interview with Joe reprinted in the booklet which says that at the time (1997?) he was playing "every Thursday to Saturday at the Cantab Lounge on Massachussetts Avenue in Cambridge". Not a lot to go on but at least it's some sort of lead.

The booklet gives Joe's date of birth as December
29,1922 so he's probably retired by now.

I checked the dates for the Sherrys' records -
1962 is the earliest so it looks as if Tammi was
out of the group before they started recording.

PS - are you aware that she supposedly spent some time with Steve Gibson and the Red Caps around
'61 - 62 before going solo ?

Mel, I'm sorry I didn't get any emails from you..I did get the Tony Clarke and Herb Ward info but when I responded to say thank you the email bounced back to me - so thank for that info..All of this is so helpful, those early years and childhood friends and people that knew her then are so very very important...The stories we have from Tommy Hunt,Patti LaBelle, and others these are the folks that knew her when she was younger. It really helps tell her story and explain who she was..
