Hi Soulpuss,
There's another Cletus Marland single on Roulette
4388 "I'll Take Care Of You" / "Like I Never Felt
Before" isued in 1961. BMI gives the writer credits for both songs to Bernard Dupree so at a
wild guess it's probably similar in style to your
Geneva single. I'm having trouble pinning down
a date for the Geneva single, I'd guess 1962-63
as Ernest Kelley was based in New York around that time.
There's a Bernard Dupree single on a label called
Granger which might be worth looking for.
Now does anybody know anything about Mr. Dupree.
Something makes me think he might have been from Philadelphia as one of his songs was recorded by
Bobby Peterson who was from one of Philly's
satellite towns. I also have a vague recollection of somebody named Dupree recording for V-Tone but I don't have the exact details handy.

As Frank Zappa once said "Cletus, Awreetus, Awrightus !" - but I rather doubt he meant THIS
Cletus.

Dave,
Looks to me as if the Geneva label changed its
name to Terry for some reason.
What's the B-side of the Terry single ?

There's a copy of Cletus' "Every Now And Then" on
e-bay on Terry 109, so it looks as if my theory
about the label changing its name from Geneve to
Terry was correct.

I think it's safe to say that this is not the same Geneva label as the one from Detroit.
I kinda like this song...have had it on a tape for a while.
Best,

Mark,
The Geneva label that issued the Cletus Marland
single was New York based - owned (?)/ run by
Ernest Kelley. He moved to Detroit in the late
sixties / early seventies and revived the label
signing up people like Johnny Griffiths and Priscilla Price.
He also seems to have been involved with another
early sixties New York lable, Lake - home of the
Cashmeres.
